Now that I have a 10-month-old baby that is crawling around at lightning speeds and making messes everywhere, we have noticed TONS of stains all around are carpets. Its simply embarrassing to have company over when it looks like you never clean your carpets, when in reality, you just had them professionally cleaned, (which costs an arm and a leg) OR you just borrowed your sisters bulky Shampoo machine (which is a pain in the butt to coordinate borrowing). It was getting so bad I was purchasing area rugs to hide the stains, which wasn’t a cheap fix either.

Now that I have the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, life has been so much more simplified. If the baby spits up on the floor or spills his baby food, etc. I can have it cleaned up in a jiffy and my carpets always look in tip-top shape! I use to have to get soap and water and scrub and scrub hoping it would come out or it would be another stain to look at until I got the carpets cleaned again. This has been a wonderful addition in our home and I am so happy to have it! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spot cleaner.

I have two young children and a very large puppy. As you can guess this combo leads to lots of messy spills and muddy paw prints. We have a very light color tan carpet in both our living room and our rec room. The living room is a high traffic area and I've been battling mud and dirt spots on it since we installed it 7 years ago or so. The rec room carpet is embarrassingly old. It was here when we bought the house and it had seen better days at that point. Some day we will replace it but until then I just keep trying to keep it as clean as possible. It's tough though and when it gets a stain it really sets in.

These problem areas are exactly why I was excited about the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. When it arrived I couldn't believe that I could take it out of the box and start using it within minutes. There was nothing to assemble, which was wonderful! I simply unboxed it, pulled out the clean water tank, filled it up to the water line, added soap up to the soap line, snapped it back in, unwound the power cord and brush, plugged it in and started using it. So easy!

I like that you can turn the motorized brush on or off and that there is a soap dispenser button. To use it once the spot cleaner is powered on, turn on the motorized brush with the push of a button, position the brush over the spot you want to clean, hold in the soap dispenser button and then put the brush on the spot. The brush bristles will move on their own and you can also move the entire brush as well. When you are done with the soap, let go of the button, and then you make a few passes over the area with the brush which will then suck up all the water into it and dispense it into the dirty water tank. It's neat to see the water being vacuumed up into the hose.

I do admit I was appalled when I saw how dirty the water was in the dirty water tank! I'm quite a neat freak so I was shocked that my carpet could be so dirty!

As for the muddy stains that were making me crazy, once I used the Rug Doctor on them I am thrilled to say they have completely disappeared! Even on the really old rec room carpet. I was amazed that it could get anything off of there. It's important to note that they were newer stains, within the last 6 month or so on the old carpet so that helped I'm sure. Either way I'm so happy to have my carpets looking so clean again!

I also have to say that I really like how compact and portable the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is too. It fits nicely on our carpeted stairs and with it's retractable handle and carpet friendly wheels it's easy to move around.

My other favorite feature is how long the power cord and the hose are. Often when I clean I think I'm just going to do one area, and then I spot another waaaay over on the other side of the room. It's nice to be able to pull up on the handle and roll it like a carry on bag to the next area.

I highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner and I've already started a list of family and friends who want to borrow mine!

I was so excited to learn that the portable Rug Doctor even exists, let alone receive it to use. This handy device has been quite literally the exact solution we've been needing to solve our pesky stained carpet issues. With pets and kids around, our carpets having been showing signs of true wear and tear! The spots and stains have been frequent and spread throughout the house, but not quite consistent enough to justify the use of the full size carpet cleaner, given that overall most of the surface area of the carpets was not stained or soiled.

I'm also extremely pleased with the performance of the Rug Doctor on our futon, upholstery, and car rugs! It is the absolute perfect size and shape to tote around on the go, wherever the need arises! My favorite features of the Portable Spot Cleaner are the motorized hand tool, retractable handle, and easy cleanup tank! These features make all the difference and turn an arduous chore into a breeze!

I highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to everyone with any kind of carpeting, upholstery in their home or car!

We have pets, a young son and live on a farm so stains are bound to happen from time to time. I hate having to get on my hands and knees to try to remove stains or drag out a huge carpet shampooer. I was so excited to find Rug Doctor makes this portable spot cleaner. I was so anxious to test it and see if it actually works and removes those pesky stains.
We have white carpet in our bedrooms so stains easily show. My son had a couple of stains in his bedroom from puking. Yes, I know… gross! I had scrubbed it and scrubbed it but the red stain (I’m assuming he’d had a red drink) just wouldn’t budge. They were in such a noticeable spot that I wanted them gone for good. The Rug Doctor removed the stains and you don’t even notice them now! It did take quite a bit of suction on the areas but it finally removed the stains. We also had a couple of pet stains in our bedroom. The Rug Doctor removed them completely.
I absolutely love the built in retractable handle and the carpet-friendly wheels. There is nothing worse than trying to lug a cleaner across carpet. This Rug Doctor easily moves across our carpet making handling and maneuvering it around very easy. I used the handheld motorized brush a lot and it has to be my favorite part of the machine. I could easily fit it in to smaller spaces and still get the same cleaning power.
My absolute favorite thing about the machine is that I can use it for quick and easy cleanup. My son may spill a drink or something else and I can quickly grab this Rug Doctor and wheeled it out to get rid of the stain. Very user friendly!
With pets hair can be one of the absolute worst things. The fur remover brush easily removes pet hair from carpets and furniture. I love that! I am always cleaning up or rolling up pet hair and I’m glad this machine has made that much easier for me.
I would highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. It is also excellent for small spaces such as apartments. It is very easy to store and takes up little space.

We have had the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for a few weeks now. It's size makes it perfect for both small jobs and harder to reach areas. For example, we've used this for everything from cleaning up after the occasional "accident" when my in-laws visit with their dog to cleaning and freshening the rugs and upholstery in our car.

Assembling the Spot Cleaner wasn't difficult, but I did find the design a little odd. You have to turn the tank upside-down to add the water, and then the cleaning solution, but there is no flat base on which to steady it. I ended up having my husband hold it for me while I added the solution so as not to spill any.

I was also a little surprised at the actual mechanics of the brush. It's listed as "motorized", which I assumed meant it would rotate, but really it just vibrates when you pull the trigger. Using the brush without pulling the trigger will allow you to suck up excess liquid to assist with drying.

I did notice a small amount of leaking when using the machine, but not enough to cause a mess.

The Spot Cleaner was quieter than I expected, having watched when I was growing up as my mother used the full-size version.

Overall, the machine does the job of cleaning small jobs fairly well, with less hassle than trying to scrub by hand.

I received this Rug Doctor so that I could test it out and tell you what I thought of it.

I love that I didn't have to assemble anything, it was ready right out of the box!

It was a bit tricky for me to get the little straw like tube out of the clean water container, but other than that, everything was a snap.

We have a home nearly covered in carpet (about 90%)...and eight kids under 11. Yeah, we have a lot of spots, and I love that the Rug Doctor can clean them up quickly and effectively. I also love upholstery brush. It is big, and easy to use. We have light colored couches, so we have made good use of this feature!

The machine itself is easy to move around with it's pull out handle. I do wish the hose were a bit longer, the short hose made it difficult for me to easily continue cleaning and I had to stop to readjust the machine often so I could reach all areas on my couch. The brush agitates well so you don't have to do much scrubbing. I felt the tanks for clean and dirty water held a sufficient amount for the spot cleaning job, and when cleaning couches I did need to refill and empty- but I don't think it would be too bad if I hadn't cleaned the entire couch.

My favorite thing is the time this little machine saves, so I can spend more time with my family and less time cleaning. I would definitely recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner if you have a lot of carpet and upholstery in your home, it will make your life a lot easier.

I received this product to review. All opinions are my own.

We live in an apartment with carpet only in the two bedrooms. Although I make everyone take off their shoes before going in the bedrooms, the carpet still gets spots on it. The reason? My 5 year old daughter LOVES crayons. And paint. And markers. And basically anything else that will make a mess on the floor! I don't get upset about it, I mean, I get it. She's a kid and that's what kids do, but I really needed a solution to the scrubbing on my hands and knees to get spots out. Not only was it a pain to do, but it really ruins the fiber of the carpet to scrub it that much.

Fortunately, I have the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner now. It's perfect for our family for a number of reasons. First, because we're in an apartment, we need something that can store easily. The retractable handle, and slim design makes the Rug Doctor easier to put away in the closet than I imagine another spot cleaner would be. The other reason it's perfect for our family is because we don't have a lot of space that needs to be cleaned, but the space we have needs to be cleaned often. I imagine that I'll be going in my daughter's room once every couple of weeks to clean up spots, so a lightweight machine that transports easily will come in really handy for me.

Overall, I'd recommend the Rug Doctor. I used it to clean up both crayon AND marker the other day, and it worked like a charm. ESPECIALLY if you have a smaller place, this is the only carpet cleaner you need.

I recently received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Remover sample to provide this review. All opinions are my own.

I was VERY excited to receive this because I have I have a dog and 3 year old who both leave their little messes all over my carpet and I have an almost 5 month old who needs a clean floor before he starts crawling soon. I love that Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner is small, compact, and portable. PREFECT for my needs. Because even though I probably shouldn't, I let my three year old eat in my car and there were spots everywhere. I also liked how easy it was set up and how little of an amount of cleaner it took to do the job. I used this on my van's upholstery and my living room carpet. I had tons of little spots on both and it cleaned them up very quickly and efficiently. My method of spot cleaning before this machine was to just follow the direct on the spray foam carpet cleaner. But this machine showed why you spend a little...because you'll get a LOT out of it! I recommend this machine to family, friends, the random lady at Wal-Mart, and everyone in between! I was beyond thrilled with the results and actually look forward to spills just so I can get it out again!

With a small house we don't need a huge carpet cleaner and also don't have a lot of space to store one. Part of our home has hardwood floors, so I don't need a full size machine, just something to tackle the spot stains from pets and children. This compact cleaner is the perfect size for limited space. It is lightweight enough to lift for upholstery and stairs and I love the retractable handle for each storage.
I was thrilled that no assembly was required with this machine and it was good to go. It was so simple to use and I didn't have to read a manual just to turn it on. The tanks were really easy to fill and empty. The suction is really powerful and it maneuvers so easy -- kind of like airline luggage. Some other machines are so bulky, this is great for those of want a smaller machine that's easier to manage but still has lots of power It's perfect for busy families!

When it comes to pets, you never know when you are going to have messes. That is why I am glad that I got to review the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. And sometimes pets can be sneaky with their "surprises." With the help of the urine detector blacklight, Rug Doctor helped me find a couple messes easily and clean them up.

I love how portable it is and how easily it can be either carried or rolled from room to room. We have both wall to wall carpet in our home and we have area rugs in other rooms. For the purpose of this review, we used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on wall to wall carpet.

I prefer this spot cleaner to other cleaners I have used in the past for the following reasons:
It's so light and easy to move from to room.
The cleaning solution has lasted much longer than what I have used in the past.
It removes tough stains better than the other spot cleaner that I have.
The fur remover brush is very handy and helps to remove the hairs that are trapped deep in carpet fibers.

I am also very much looking forward to trying it out on the upholstery of my car. My husband works as a fork lift operator and he gets the car greasy. I have found nothing that could get that out in the past, but I have high hopes that this can. :)

We would definitely recommend the spot cleaner because it is very effective on stains, especially pet stains, and it is a great price - way cheaper than replacing carpet.

Our home was previously owned by an older couple and has white carpet throughout it. In our home this summer, we had our 6 kids much of the time. We also had friends and family who visited, so you can just imagine the dirt that our white carpet collected. There were a few stains on the carpet (from dirt being tracked in I believe) that we used the Rug Doctor on. It took a few times going over it, but the Rug Doctor removed the stain!

I love that the Rug Doctor required no assembly and was super easy to use! I could literally see the dirt being lifted from the carpet. I like that the trigger made it easy to dispense the soap onto the carpet and that the brush was tough enough to get the stain out, but still gentle on the carpet. I also like that the suction was strong, lifting the remaining water from the carpet. I would definitely recommend the Rug Doctor to my friends and family!

If you’re looking for the perfect carpet cleaner to tackle all of you’re toughest and roughest carpet stains, look no further than the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. This little machine is a BEAST when it comes to getting out stains out of your light-colored carpets, it even gets up the old stubborn ones, too. Being a mom to three teens, my carpet stays dirty, like all of the time. And, unfortunately I can’t afford to get my carpet cleaned every six months, it’s just not in our budget.

So, I needed something to help me tackle the stains so that I can cut back on cleaning my carpet every six months. That’s when I heard about the wondrous little machine from Rug Doctor. After going over a few old dirty stains, I was instantly hooked. This machine literally got the stains out of my light-colored carpet, and made it look new again. I just wish I had the energy to do my floor with this, but that’s not going to happen.

It’s easy to use and and it doesn’t take a whole lot to pick up your stains, simply fill and go. Also, it's great at picking up the excess water too. I love this cleaner and it’s made cleaning my carpets a breeze. I haven’t tried it on my furniture yet, but maybe I’ll give it a whirl before summer’s over.

I highly recommend this machine to those with light-colored carpets or those who just want to keep their carpets clean in between cleanings.

First let me just say that my portable rug doctor carpet cleaner has changed my life.

It might sound a little extreme, but please let me explain why I feel this way. We have had this mini doxie that refuses to use the bathroom outside. That was bad, but it was manageable. Then my husband rescued a larger dog and she seems to have learned from the little one that it is perfectly acceptable to use my carpeted floors to do her business.

I had just finished renting a commercial Rug Doctor machine to clean all of the carpets when I learned there was a Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner. I have always loved how well the Rug Doctor machines work when I rent them and used to wish there was a smaller version that would make it easier to deal with messes right away without having to lug a huge machine around for a few small areas.

I was so excited for the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to arrive! It came just in the nick of time. Literally 10 minutes after I opened it my son called me from the other room to tell me Molly had made another mess.

It was SO easy to clean up the mess. The Rug Doctor has 2 containers. One is for clean water, and the other is for the dirty water. I filled the clean water tank with water and cleaner and turned on the machine. The hand help tool has a powerful rotating brush that can be turn on separately. The whole process is super simple and takes no time to get the job done.

I was very impressed to see the portable Rug Doctor had the same suction power as the full sized versions if not more. It was fun to watch as all of the dirty water was sucked up. I would highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to anyone.

Ok, I really don't know where to begin.. The Portable Spot Cleaner from Rug Doctor has just made my life with three young kids (ages 5-2) a whole heck of a lot easier! Seriously. We have about 2/3 of the house in hard wood flooring and 1/3 in carpet. The bedrooms are carpet but those one are pretty ok, since I do not allow the kids to have food in there. The living room, however, is a whole different story. There were terrible stains in the living room carpet even before we moved in and, of course, my kids have added their own. To say it simply, my living area is an embarrassment to me when I have people over, which is quite often! I feel self-consience about how yucky the floor looks, so I have put a rug down over the majority of the stains in order to hide them.. Needless to say, I about flipped out when the Portable Spot Cleaner showed up on my doorstep!

Since receiving the Portable Spot Cleaner in the mail a couple weeks ago, I have cleaned almost the entire living room floor spots! I am not kidding.. They are just about ALL GONE! Hallelujah! The spots were all over the floor, not in just one spot, so the portable feature was amazing and perfect. The hand wand has a scrubbing part that moves back and forth to get between the carpet fibers and it really does work wonders! There was this particular spot that has been deep in the carpet for months (my baby knocked over my pop and it spilled into the carpet) and I have tried scrubbing by hand with carpet cleaner, with absolutely no success. The Portable Spot Cleaner sucked up the stain out of the carpet and spit it out into the 'Waste Water' container. Let me tell you that I was so thankful but really grossed out by how dark and disgusting that water was when I was done. Ewwww.

Clean, soapy water in and gross, stain-water out. It's almost like magic! This is truly a vital addition to every carpeted household!

I will be potty training my daughter this next month so I am guessing I am gong to be using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on a daily basis... Wish me luck. :)

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facillitate this review. All opinions are my own. I absolutely LOVED my Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, with two cats and an accident prone chihuahua I am always down on my hands and knees scrubbing up paw prints and tiny stains. With Rug Doctor, it's so incredibly easy to use that it takes half the time and gets rid of the stain on the first try!

I used it in multiple spots on my wall to wall carpeting and on our couch upholstery and it got rid of the stains in seconds! There was a stain on our sofa from a soda spill that I was convinced would never come out. I had tried everything, Rug Doctor got rid of it and I literally did a happy dance!

The size of the Rug Doctor is perfect for storing and moving it around to grab multiple stains, the wheels were a life saver, I hate lugging around a huge carpet cleaner. I love the flexibility of the hose! The retractable handle is perfection! Nothing, in my opinion, compares to the Rug Doctor and I have tried multiple carpet cleaners. By far the easiest and most effective! I already told a friend all about it and she's ordered herself one!

Messes happen. Even in the cleanest of homes they come about from either pets or kids or adults with clumsy hands. Whatever the cause Rub Doctor is to the rescue with their newest Portable Spot Cleaner. The spot cleaner is powerful and compact with all the bells and whistles you’d need to get out the most stubborn of stains.
Little Man is a joy when he is eating but he of course makes messes and it always seems to be a staining food on the carpet or a staining juice on the carpet. So this little Spot Cleaner is perfect. Instead of Steaming or Shampooing your whole carpet you can set it to work on your most stubborn stainsjust use the included hand held cleaning tool. The Spot Cleaner consists of a double suction hand held motorized activation cleaning brush. Being hand held is great but the unit also sports a telescoping handle for easy movement from spot to spot. This unit is perfect for spots big or small.
Using this unit we were able to get stubborn stains out of our living room carpet including but not limited to old pet stains, spilled juice and even Mexican food stains. All of which were almost a pleasure to clean.
Included in the package is meant to act as your all in one spot remover. The package includes a Portable Spot Cleaner Complete Package comes with the Portable Spot Cleaner machine, an 8 oz. trial size cleaning solution, a spot finder black light, a fur remover brush, a 1 year extended warranty, and $20.00 in Rug Doctor Coupons.

I was excited to get the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for my home. Living with five males comes with lots and lots of messes! I was hoping this machine would help me handle some of them. I took the item out of the package, and I was impressed with how the product was labeled to facilitate using it for the first time. It has temporary stickers teaching you which tank is for your hot water and cleaning solution and which one is where the dirty water will be deposited.

I like the handle and wheels that help moving it from place to place. I also enjoy the cleaning brush, although motorized means mostly a back and forth brush motion. My one complaint for this machine is that it the nozzle for the cleaning solution leaked slightly for me after spraying. Not excessively, but it did annoy me a bit.

I tried out the machine on my car upholstery. It is a light gray color, and just like everything my boys get in contact with it gets messy. I started cleaning just the seat of the chair, and ended up cleaning more seats, the floor, the mats and more! It is amazing to watch the amount of very grimy and dirty water being sucked back up into the machine!

The other thing I really liked about this carpet cleaner were the instructions. It was easy to read, not overly complicated and had great helpful tips. I look forward to a lot of rug and upholstery cleaning in my home with this machine!

Our family consists of three children (6, 3, 1), two adults and two cats, so there are messes to be vacuumed, mopped or scrubbed out daily. We used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner three times over the past couple of weeks on a hairball stain on the dining room rug, a potty accident on the living room carpet and on an old stain in the carpet by the stairs.

I like the retractable handle and wheels to make it easy to cart the carpet cleaner from room to room and the length of the hose and cord were sufficiently long to avoid having to hop from outlet to outlet. I was pleased at how easy it was to use, the clean up job it did and the suction power seems to live up to its promises—our other spot cleaner would leave sopping wet spots that would take hours (if not an entire day) to dry.

I like that I have the option to use this in the car, on the stairs and to target larger areas than our previous spot cleaner would cover. The tank was easy to clean with the large opening, but it was a little finicky to fill the clean water tank since I could not set it down flat on the counter to measure the solution while pouring it in. That is the only downside so far and we hope that it keeps performing the way it has as we tackle new messes.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions, hairballs, potty training accidents and comparison to what I already owned, are my own.

We have three kids and a dog. Our carpets don’t stay clean for long. I found that we needed a good portable carpet cleaner when those life oops! happen. For instance my daughter spilled juice on my carpet just last week and no matter how much I scrub it still remains. I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate my review. All opinions are 100% mine. I was excited about the portability of this machine. It’s small and easy to move around. I love the adjustable handle that is like a suitcase up and down handle (and stationary carrying handle). I am able to move it around the house easily even at 5 months pregnant. It’s portable and great for small spills and stains. Right out of the box it was ready to use. I was thankful that I did not have to put anything together. I also love that it has fill lines for the water and soap. No guessing involved which makes for easy and quick clean ups. All in all this is a great portable carpet cleaner for any mom with kids or pets. I would highly recommend it. The only con is the cord is not very long. I found I had to stretch it in some rooms of my house but I was able to make it work.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

My little chihuahua is a boy dog, and for anyone that knows about having boy dogs — they are notorious for marking their territory. Tucker goes around making sure everyone knows what’s his, and I have to come right behind him trying to get the stain and the smell out.

I have a huge carpet cleaner, but to be honest it is cumbersome and really hard to get out when I need to spot clean something. That is why I am glad that I got to try out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.

When I got my little machine in, I was ecstatic! I am so tired of wagging around the big cleaner when I only needed to clean a few little spots on my carpet.

Tucker’s favorite place to “mark” is right behind my couch. I went there today just to see — and sure enough — there was his tell tale sign.

Setting up the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is easy. You just take it out of the box, add your solution to where it tells you, and then plug it in. You have to give it a bit to get the solution down into your hose before it comes out onto the carpet.

Then — you just clean, like you normally would.

I love that the spot cleaner makes it so much easier for me — especially if I am having guests over and need to do a quick run of the house and clean up a few spills before company comes over.

This little puppy has 2 times the suction power than the other brands and offers a very powerful handheld motorized brush.

Going from room to room is easy too. I just pull up the handle, and then roll it to whatever room I am going to. For me, the next stop was my daughter’s room.

I think the retractable handle was my favorite part of this whole process. I don’t like to lift things, so to be able to roll this from room to room was perfect for me.

I also liked that it was not heavy. I could lift it if I needed to, without it weighing a ton — which my full size does. It is SO heavy.

My wall to wall carpet was very thankful for the spot cleaning I did today.

I loved how it didn’t take me but about 5 minutes to spot clean, where if I had my big cleaner out, it would have taken at least 30 minutes to an hour.

If you are looking for a good carpet cleaning tool, I suggest getting a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for your home. You can purchase on the Rug Doctor site, or at Best Buy.

Our house is on a country dirt road and quite frankly there isn't anything that would keep the floors spotless. The hardwoods ALWAYS need to be swept and the carpets are quick to stain with mud and dirt, let alone kool-aid from the kids. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is extremely portable and easy to use. It handles all our day-to-day needs and it is quite simple to figure out.

There is no complicated set-up necessary and the only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because there was no cleaning solution included and I had to run to the store to pick it up. Fortunately nearly every grocery store in our area and Walmart carry the brand. The handle makes it easy to bring along on wheels and it retracts so as not to take up a lot of space. This is an added bonus in my opinion.

If you need a spot remover for your carpets, this is a great one at a reasonable price. If it does the job for our family with the boys running in and out and bringing in their kayaks onto the livingroom rug it should hold up anywhere.

With three little ones I find it nearly impossible to keep our rugs and carpet clean! We have spills and little feet running through the house with their shoes on often...especially this time of year! As a busy mom I'm always looking for ways to make cleaning these types of messes easier, which is why I was thrilled when given the chance to test out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner!

Out of the box I was impressed with the nice size right away, not to mention the fact that there wasn't any assembly required other than putting in the water and cleaner! YAY for making things easy! Once we had the water and cleaner in the tank, I decided to tackle a spot on our carpet where people's shoes land when they walk into our home. It was quite dirty compared to the rest of our carpet, so I was hoping I'd see a big difference after using the Rug Doctor, as nothing else has helped!

After following the user-friendly instructions, I was thrilled to find that the Rug Doctor is very easy to use! I simply powered on the unit, positioned the brush in front of the dirty area, squeezed the soap trigger and moved the tool over the stain with the motorized brush. It was very simple, and in no time I began seeing the water filling the waste water tank. It looked terribly dirty which made my heart happy, as I knew it was doing the job it is intended to do. After I left the spot to dry, I was amazed with how clean it looked. Seeing how great the Rug Doctor worked, made me want to clean every stain and spot on the carpets in all of our rooms! One by one I've been working on them and am so impressed with how effective the Rug Doctor has been at getting these stains out and the carpet looking good as new. There's even a stain from when we cleaned out our fireplace that was right in the middle of our family room. Now the stain is no more. I know this is just a spot cleaner...but I want to do all of my carpets with it, it's that great! It would be wonderful for not just wall to wall carpet, but also area rugs, car rugs, and more!

What I love is just how lightweight and easy it is to use. The retractable handle and wheels make it incredibly easy to take from room to room (unlike other carpet cleaners we've had), not to mention the nice size for storing too! Overall we've been very impressed with our Rug Doctor and highly recommend to others as a useful spot cleaning tool! It makes cleanup quick and easy anytime, anywhere so we can get back to our lives without spending so much of our time cleaning!

We have some inexpensive area rugs in our home, and the one we have in front of our TV in the living room was getting a lot of stains. It's a high-traffic area, and we had some dirt, food and coffee stains on them.

The area rug was getting so stained that I had considered buying a new one, but then I got the opportunity to try out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner – just in time to see if it would get rid of those stains.

I watched the “Quick Start” video Rug Doctor has on their YouTube channel, which told me everything I needed to know about getting started with the machine in under 2 minutes.

Pros:

This machine totally works and is worth every penny. You should have seen how dirty the water was from just a few passes on the carpet! That could not have been from just the few stains we had. Knowing how much dirt this machine can get out of our carpets, I'll clean them with it more often from now on.

If you have small kids and/or pets, this machine is a lifesaver.

I also ended up using the machine on spots on our sofa with the same great result, and the seats in my car will be next.

I was pleasantly surprised that the cleaning solution doesn't smell. I stay away from fragrances because they bother me, and this cleaning solution has just the fainest smell, and it's pleasant.

I really like the pull-out handle, which makes pulling the machine very easy.

Cons:

I had the hardest time to open the bottle of cleaning solution. The child safety top surely works – a little too much in my case. My tip: don't try to open the bottle with your thumb and pointer finger; grab the top with your fingers except your thumb and squeeze it open that way. It's much easier.

The machine is pretty loud, so I wouldn't use it when small kids or pets are around.

I wish the water tanks had real handles, not just an indentation for your hand, which would make filling the water tank with the cleaner easier. The tank could slip out of your grip when it gets heavy from the water.

The next time I'll know to fill the tank only half way and with half of the cleaning solutions for a small job so I'm not wasting water and cleaning solution.

The cleaning solution drips a bit at times when you are using the machine, so if you have flooring you are worried about under the carpet or item you are cleaning, it's a good idea to use this machine outside or somewhere where you are not worried about the floor.

Another tip: be careful when you take off the tank with the dirty water. Take it off slowly and look for the hole in the talk. Keep it upright so the dirty water doesn't drip out of the hole before you can empty it.

Again, I would totally recommend having this machine in your home. It makes cleaning up spills so easy, deep cleans, and it's not expensive.

I live in a house with a lot of messes! I have an in home daycare, three children of my own and two dogs! With all of my two legged and four legged babies, my carpets experience a lot of spills. Before receiving the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, I would use a spray on carpet cleaner to clean up messes such a sippy cup spills, dog messes, etc. Well this would leave my carpet really wet and it seemed like the wet spot would be a magnet for dirt. My carpets looked dingy and gross. I would occasionally rent a Rug Doctor full size carpet cleaner from my local grocery store and loved the way it would make my carpets look! Too bad that clean carpet look and feel never lasted due to the high traffic in my home.

Now that I have the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, my carpets look great! I am able to clean up a mess when it happens and with the powerful suction of this Spot Cleaner, the carpet is almost dry and therefore it stays looking great after the spot comes up!

I REALLY love this machine! First of all I love how compact it is. Everything winds up onto the machine so there are no loose cords or hoses to lose or trip over. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is so easy to use too! You just fill the machine with hot tap water and cleaner and you are ready to go. I didn’t have to assemble anything either! I thought it might be tricky to figure out how to use it, but I was pleasantly surprised and was on my way to cleaning up my carpet spots in just a couple of minutes after taking my machine out of the box.

I was amazed by how well it cleaned up the spots on my carpet. There were some unidentified spots all over my carpet and the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner tackled them all! I honestly couldn’t see anything left from the carpet stains! They were COMPLETELY gone!

I can’t wait to use my Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on other places in my home such as my sofa, which also experiences spills and occasional pet accidents. This machine would also work great on carpeted stairs, your car upholstery and floor mats, and many other areas in your home. I am truly thrilled with this cleaner!

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner saved my Oriental wool area rug! My daughter spilled a cup of 100% grape juice on my light colored rug right before we were ready to leave for an appointment. I about cried, I did panic and started blotted with paper towels. It was a huge mess.

Luckily I just received my Rug Doctor cleaner the day before but didn't set it up yet. I never like setting new things up so I was waiting until I was ready to use it. Now, I was ready!

I opened it and quickly assembled it; it was so easy - even in my panic and fear that my oriental rug was forever ruined. The water tank has a wide mouth opening, so it was very easy to fill with water and slips right back on the machine. I started right way sucking up the grape juice, I figured this was the best test for the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner ever and was praying it would work.

It sucked up the grape juice (and dirt that I didn't even know was there) from the rug within minutes. It didn't take long at all to clean up the grape juice, I could hardly believe it. The handheld brush is motorized and has incredible suction power. I didn't believe my eyes and thought maybe the spot would come back once it dried. When we returned from our appointment hours later, it looked like the grape juice was never on my rug. It was like new thanks to my new Rug Doctor. I know it would have been ruined without it; this spot cleaner saved me thousands of dollars. I'm so glad I had it.

I'm now working on other spots in my home next, including my steps and my van's carpet.

I have an old dog that tends to have a lot of accidents. I've tried many carpet cleaners over the years so I am pretty familiar with how carpet cleaners usually work. My first thought while filling up the water tank was that I did not like that it was sloped because I can't put it down in my sink while it fills and it's hard to make the line level to make sure you're putting the right amount of water and soap in the container.

The brush says that it is motorized, but really what it does is vibrate as long as you don't push down to hard on it. The machine was pretty loud, I thought, for a small cleaner.

My biggest complaint would be the gaping hole in the side of the waste water tank. I'm used to tanks being sealed and when I removed the tank, I was in a darker hallway so didn't see the writing on the side of it saying this end up. Needless to say, I poured disgusting water all over my feet and the floor as I was walking away from the tank.

Overall, the carpet cleaner does do a good job cleaning and sucking the water back up. I'm just not fond of the two tank designs.

The first time I raised the retractable handle, it did fight me- it didn't want to open. I got it open and it's working fine now. I like the wheels on the unit so that you don't have to carry it around everywhere.

I love that our home is carpeted except for the clean up aspect involved. We have beige carpets and have placed multi colored area carpets in certain rooms to add color to the room. As a rule, nobody is allowed to walk around the house with shoes on but on occasion we've had a service personnel walk in with plastic bags on his shoes, forget something in his truck, walk out with the bags still on and trail back in with a path of mud following. Despite cleaning the stains after his departure, we've seen patches have remained!
The kids are also very careful in the home and eat in the dining area but the occasional accidents do happen. Just the other evening my daughter felt terribly queasy after a long, hot, day at the Park and rushing to the bathroom, threw up orange gunk all over the carpet. We managed to clean quite a bit off but the stains remained.
The Rug Doctor has always been recommended but the clunky heaviness of the commercial grade rental equipment at Walmart held us back from dragging the same in. So when we learnt there's a more compact yet as effective alternative, we were naturally excited to try the same. The equipment is easy to set up and move around, light weight (when compared to the large units) and yes easy to work with once you get the hang of using it. The important things to remember are to spray the stained area well and allow the brush to do the work repeatedly to get the required results you are looking for. I would recommend using this immediately after a stain has been made to get the best results possible. (It does work on old stains but fresh stains come out easier and quicker.)

I'm definitely happier with this cleaner considering the ease and effectiveness of use and know this will come in handy over the next couple of months as our youngest is setting off on the next milestone of life...crawling!

Last year, we moved into a townhouse.  After living in an apartment for several years, I was thrilled with the extra space, the backyard, and all the other amenities.  The only drawback?  The stained carpet.  My house was formerly inhabited by four bachelors right out of college - need I say more?  We tried everything from professional carpet cleaners to name-brand stain removers to remove the soda spills, grease stains, and mysterious black spots.  I had varying levels of success; but I was still left with a floor that made me cringe as I walked past.

By this point, I was willing to try anything. So, when the Rug Portable Spot Cleaner arrived on my doorstep, I excitedly tried it out. It was quite easy to assemble and start cleaning my stains, a huge plus when you have your child's limited naptime to work!

Since many of the stains are concentrated on my stairs, I was really happy that the Rug Portable Spot Cleaner fit perfectly on one step. That way, the machine didn't wobble or ominously lean as I deep cleaned. I also loved the long power cord – I didn't have to continually move the plug as I went further up the stairs.

It didn't remove all my pesky stains; but many of them faded significantly. And, I'm hoping that if I use the machine every few weeks, it will eventually eradicate them completely!

First let me say, I am a mom of 6 and a home childcare provider. Not only do I have little kids making messes, I also have messy teens and people coming and going all day long due to my daycare.

The first thing I noticed and liked about the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is the size. I expected it to be bigger and heavier but it’s nice and compact and light. I liked the carrying handle and there is also a handle that extends like a suitcase handle – which is great.

I liked the two water tanks too. One side is a clean water tank where you put your clean water and cleaning solution and the other side is the waste water (dirty water). These tanks are easy to fill and empty.

I cleaned two spots on my carpet where my hubby spilled coffee and I also cleaned a spot on my carpet that was stained blue from a color run that we participated in. All spots came nicely clean. The motorized hand tool is fantastic. It scrubs the floor while spraying the cleaning solution and then sucks the liquid up all in one stroke. It really worked great.

I do have an upright vacuum-style carpet washer that I have to lug out of the basement when we have spills and accidents but no more – now I am looking forward to using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner!

I would most definitely recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner!

As a busy household with four children ages 6yrs and under, along with 2 dogs and 3 cats, our house is very busy. On top of the little feet and paws walking around, my husband is a Tow Truck Driver who always encounters yucky greases and oils. Almost our whole house is full of carpet, and since we built our home 3 1/2 yrs ago, our downstairs carpet has been put through the ringer! From peanut butter and jelly hands, to diaper accidents, and muddy dog paws, our carpet has seen it all. Since we've lived in our home we often use a small version carpet cleaner to clean our floors, but since its not hand held or something simple to put together, the stains we often notice sit untouched unless we're willing to do the whole living room. When I had the chance to receive the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, I knew it would be the answer to our quick needed solutions. After sitting in the box for a few days, my husband and I planned on using it for little spots around the home, but before we could do that we discovered a big mess that needed immediate attention. After being gone to our county fair for most of the day, we came home to a big mess from our German Shepherd. She had an upset stomach that we weren't aware of and had no choice but to use the bathroom in her cage. In doing so, she created a huge mess of poo everywhere including our carpet since she sits in the living room. Even though I didn't want to have the first thing this machine was used to clean up be dog poo, we knew it had to be done. Since she tracked random little paw prints on her way outside to be cleaned up, this was a great time to have the portable option because we could trace her steps and only clean what was needed. To my surprise, our carpet looks EXCELLENT. You can't really tell what happened, her paw prints were gone through out the house, and as soon as we got it cleaned up, the smell in our home was also gone. Since this cleaner has a rotating brush, we were able to get in the threading of the carpet instead of just pushing it down deeper trying to rub a normal carpet cleaner brush through the stain. I think my favorite part of this machine is that it's on wheels with a retractable handle. This handle makes storage easier since it folds in to itself, and when not in use the handle isn't in the way while sitting in the garage waiting for the next use. I do wish the clean/dirty tanks were a bit larger because we needed to change to water twice in order to ensure all the mess was off the carpet, and since the dirty tank fills up quickly, this was our only personal downfall. I think for a quick spill spot of juice or a couple muddy shoe prints, this wouldn't be a problem at all, and I do see why the tanks are their current size. In extreme situations like our's, needing to stop and refill the clean tank only took a minute and it wasn't a big deal to us in the long run because it got the job done right and did just what we needed it to do. Comparing this to other carpet cleaners we've used, I prefer it over others to clean the normal spots up that everyone has. Since it's small and compact, it's easy to move around and get right where you need it so that is a huge plus. I would definitely recommend this to our family and friends because Rug Doctor is a great company, their products are always reliable, and they're worth the money you invest because it will last a long time. I'm looking forward to using this on future stains and even our furniture to give everything a new breath of life with a nice clean look to it!

I recently received the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner while I was out of town, and upon arrival I was so excited to use it. First thing I noticed was how compact it was, with everything you need all together and easy to reach. I LOVE that it's portable and not a big heavy machine to lug around. BUT Don't let the small size surprise you, it's packed full of steam cleaning power. It came with cleaning solution too, which was great, so I didn't have to run out and get some.
I have two daughters (who are just as messy as boys) and a husband who are always making messes, spilling drinks, tracking in mud, dirt, and whatever else may stick to their shoes like a magnet. Our bedroom carpet by the door way was awful with stains. I had used carpet cleaner in the past and nothing seemed to work, so I wasn't sure that this little machine would either, but I was wrong!
I love that this machine was easy to move around, it has wheels and a telescoping handle. I also love that the vacuum nozzle was clear too, you could see what you were sucking up while doing some spot cleaning on your carpet.
All of the dirty, stained spots we had in the entry way to our bedroom are now completely gone thanks to the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.
I'd definitely recommend this to a friend. Save yourself some time from scrubbing on your hands and knees with those spray foam cleaners that don't work, and just buy this product!

A few weeks ago I got the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. I got one free to facilitate this review (my opinions are my own).

Having two dogs and three kids meant that this would be in use at least a few times a week. From my couches to my carpets to my area rugs, there is always a need to clean something up!

Sure enough, within a day my girls spilled chocolate milk on my couch and it spilled to my rug. I pulled out the small and manageable Rug Doctor and used the motorized hand brush to clean up the mess. I filled the removable water tank easily and reattached it. Turning it on, I picked it up by it's retractable handle and easily carried it to the stain. The cord is plenty long to reach the couch in the center of the living room.

As I used the suction capability on the brush, I could see the dirt and milk being sucked into the machine. It easily sucked up the milk and any dirt underneath returning my carpet and couch to clean. The machine did not leave a ton of water and it was dry in no time.

I like the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner and recommend it to anyone who has pets and kids and stains to clean!

*I received this product as part of a review with Mom Central. All opinions expressed are my own and were not influenced in anyway.

As a mom to two preschoolers and a large dog, installing carpeting in my home was a huge mistake. Even worse, we live in a small condo so there isn't much room to spread out. Plus, our carpeting is beige. It's amazing how spills and stains just appear out of no where. On top of that, even though both children are completely potty trained, potty accidents do happen. Our well-behaved dog every now and then has an accident in the house as well. Gross right? We realized when we replaced our carpeting last year how deep stains go. Basically, when we cleaned up a spill or accident, we were only getting the top layer, which was fine for eye appeal. We couldn't tell you how disgusted we were when we saw all the stains on the padding and underside of the carpet.

This was my first experience using any sort of portable spot cleaner, but since Rug Doctor has such a positive reputation, I was eager to give it a go on my already worn new carpet. I usually wait for my husband to do projects like these, so he can put them together and since he is better at instructions. I cannot say enough how easy the Rug Doctor was right out of the box. Since I am the primary housekeeper in our home, this is great. There is no set up involved, just simply add water and the included soap. I also have to note how light and easy to carry the Rug Doctor is. Right now, I have just used it in my home, but I am really upset with the condition of my back seats in my SUV, so I have plans in the near future to use the Rug Doctor in there as soon as possible.

I really enjoyed the smell of the cleaning solution included. I found the brush to be very easy to use for small stains that may otherwise not be able to get worked out. We have Berber type carpeting in our bedroom and my husband unknowingly walked through with muddy boots. If you have Berber, you know how easy it is to get stains worked in and how hard it is to get out. The brush was perfect to use in this case. I love how you don't need to put a lot of elbow grease into scrubbing out stains since the motorized brush does it all for you.

Many times stains just set into the carpeting and although you SMELL them, you can't see them. The Spot Finder Light was a great help in the living room for this. It was pretty gross to see the color of the water when I was finished.

The Rug Doctor is definitely a must have for any home with pets or children.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. After nearly 14 years, 3 pets, 3 kids and now a grandson (in our home) our carpeting is looking beyond it's age. It's a light multi-colored berber but always has a dark, dingy appearance even after vacuuming and using our old carpet cleaner. When I received the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner I wasn't really holding out much hope that it would make a noticeable difference in our old "family used" carpet but it surprised me and I'm very pleased with the results. The first thing you notice is its small, compact size and then its weight. Just thinking about lugging our old, heavy and bulky cleaner out and up and down stairs made my injured back ache but the Rug Doctor, I found, is much easier to maneuver and one heck of a lot easier to carry. What I love most is that I can use it on my stairs without struggling to keep it balanced on each step. It fits perfectly and does a great job of removing even old stubborn stains. As I said we have 3 pets (one small dog & two cats) plus a grandson who is mobile so strange spots tend to show up on a daily basis. Now when I see them I can quickly take care of them before they set in and my carpet looks a whole lot lighter and cleaner too. Now I don't feel so bad about my grandson crawling around on the floor because I know it's cleaner. Another perk with the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is that it takes up less space when stored away. My home doesn't have a lot of storage room so that is a huge plus in my book! Accidents happen but with the Portable Spot Cleaner from the Rug Doctor, you get cleaner carpet in a shorter amount of time and it doesn't wear you out since its easier to handle.

I'm very impressed with the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner! First of all, it arrives completely assembled so all you have to do is pull it out of the box. You can be using it in minutes. I never want to use something I have to figure out again every time I decide to use it - that will NOT be the case with this machine!

I have a family child care business in my home so I have a lot of uses for a spot cleaner. My carpet sees paint, spit up, pet messes, potty accidents and just general wear and tear.

The size is great - not too big and big enough to hold enough water to get good sized area cleaned up. The retractable handle and wheels are a big plus! That makes the job even easier and you can take the cleaner where ever you need it.

I used it on my large area rug under the kitchen table. A paint brush was dropped and there's been an orange tempera paint spill dried into the carpet for a couple of weeks...I didn't have time to clean up it at the time. Using the motorized hand tool and the professional strength carpet cleaner, it came right up with minimal cleaning time and effort. I like that the motorized hand tool requires less scrubbing on my part and effectively works the spot to remove it.

I also used in a small high traffic area and was amazed by how much better it looks! The water in it sucks back up and puts into the dirty tank was just black - yikes! but that shows how effective the machine is.

I'm very pleased to own this carpet spot cleaner and will be using it on my carpet, area rugs, steps, car & household upholstery.

I feel this machine has is even better than the last one I had, which is a well known brand, but it doesn't have the wheels, handle and extra long cord that the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has.

Get this one, you'll wonder how you cleaned without it!

I loved how convenient this was to use! With three kids it seems like I always have spots and stains on the carpets and furniture because I don’t have the time to clean my carpets often enough, so the little spills don’t get cleaned as thoroughly as they should – and then when I do rent a carpet cleaner it takes me so long to get the carpets done that I’m too exhausted to clean the furniture too. This portable spot cleaner has become a lifesaver though! The first time I used it I tackled an old juice spill which left a nasty pink discoloration on my carpet. I filled the tank assuming I’d use it all on the spot. It cleaned the stain up and then I proceeded to clean another stain, and another, and I still had cleaner in the tank so I cleaned our entire recliner! It worked really well on the furniture and it’s quick and convenient. The spot cleaner is lightweight and the hose is long enough to reach everywhere I needed it too. I am super glad that I have this so I can finally maintain my house in between major cleanings. Seriously – no parents should be without one of these things! I wish I’d had mine years ago!

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for review. All opinions are my own.

My home is a mix of rugs and carpet. The rugs being over 10' x 7' make them not so easy to replace cost wise so the investment in a Rug Doctor made perfect sense for spills, stains and spot cleaning. In addition to that, the only carpet in my whole house belongs in the playroom/entertainment room. Sigh. I don't think I need to explain what happens to a floor when you have playdates. Regardless, I was pretty excited to test out the spot cleaner on old stains and new spills!

First of all, the Portable Spot Cleaner is nicely tucked together which allows it to travel easily. There is a carrying handle, but also an adjustable handle that pulls out waist length to move around the house. The little wheels travel just fine on lower carpets, but I couldn't say if they push as easily on plush. The hose wraps around the front while the cord wraps around the back. Very efficient and great if your Mom comes over and wants to steal it like mine!

I didn't have any problem getting the water containers out. Although I would suggest having your Cleaning Solution already open when filling it as the shape doesn't allow for you to set it down. You'll have to hold it and add the solution. It requires hot water from the tap and has clear distinct lines for water level and cleaning solution.

The noise level is pretty high, but I kind of expected that as it generally means it has power suction (which it does!). It did take me a moment to get the idea of how to use it since the cleaner doesn't automatically come out and instead you have to push a button on the handle labeled SOAP. I found that it was easier for me to spray the soap on and let it sit a moment rather than spraying while doing the job. However, the nice part is that the handle is also motorized so you don't have to do the scrubbing! The brushes push apart the carpet for you! I LOVE this. You can turn it off and do the scrubbing yourself on big jobs though. Sometimes it does take some elbow grease.

The suction on this little Rug Doctor is amazing, quite frankly. You can see it pulling the excess cleaner and dirt out of your carpet or rug. It leaves only a slight dampness behind that isn't really noticeable unless you're looking for it. I cleaned various types of spots and spills, spills were easier as they were new. Many spots came right up, but there were a few very old stains that have more than likely already dyed the carpet fibers that only faded. I ran it over these about 3 times and the Spot Cleaner faded it enough to smooth with the rug. This didn't bother me and is a lot better than having a hugely visible stain and again, I don't think it is due in part to the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner more so than these stains have had time to dye the fabric.

It was very horrifying seeing how dirty my rug was once I was done cleaning. On the good note, it meant this baby is doing its job! I used it on my couch that doesn't have removable cushion covers and it now looks gorgeous! I wholeheartedly recommend this not only for spots on rugs and carpets, but also for upholstery and furniture.

Overall, it's very simple to cart around and isn't too much heavier than a vacuum or you can roll it. This makes traveling with it a breeze. It is a great spot cleaner to have on hand for spots, spills and high traffic areas. It may not pull up very old stains that have dyed the carpet, but it will fade them. It does a great job pulling up most other stains, can be used on stairs and furniture! It's super easy to get everything started and put away when your finished. It also is more cost efficient than purchasing new rugs or carpet and is a lot easier than using umpteen amount of different hand cleaners and trying to scrub the life out of your nice rug.

I love this portable spot cleaner and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

The Rug Doctor is a great tool for a family with 4 boys under 8. There is always a stain in progress. The day I received the rug doctor my baby had had a blow out right on the carpet, thankfully we had this awesome machine or I would have had to pay the big bucks for someone to come out and clean my carpets.
When I prepped the Rug Doctor to use I did not expect so much from such a little machine. It pulled out every stain in my carpets, almost every stain in my fake leather chair, and everything from the seats of my truck! Then the gallon of water ran out. I was completely surprised and thanking the creators of such a mighty little Rug Doctor. It was very easy to use, and cleaning it up and putting it away was just as easy! I am going to love owning this machine, especially for spills on carpets and also for my car & truck! I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own!

If you're looking for the perfect carpet cleaner to tackle all of you're toughest and roughest carpet stains, look no further than the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. This little machine is a BEAST when it comes to getting stains out of your light-colored carpets -- it even gets up the old stubborn ones, too. Being a mom to three teens, my carpet stays dirty, like all the time. And, unfortunately I can't afford to get my carpet cleaned every six months, it's just not in our budget.

So, I needed something to help me tackle the stains so that I can cut back on those six month cleanings. That's when I heard about this wondrous little machine from Rug Doctor. After going over a few old dirty stains, I was instantly hooked. This machine literally got the stains out of my lightly-colored carpet, and made it look new again.

I just wish I had the energy to do my whole floor with this, but that's not going to happen. It's easy to use and and it doesn't take a whole lot to pick up your stains, simply fill and go. Also, i'st great at picking up the excess water too. I love this cleaner and it's made cleaning my carpets a breeze. I haven't tried it on my furniture yet, but maybe I'll give that a whirl before summer's over.

I highly recommend this machine to those with light carpets or those who just want to keep their carpets clean between cleanings.

I was very excited to try out the portable spot cleaner because I have two young children and two dogs. Therefore, not only is my time very limited while chasing around a toddler and a baby, my life is also extremely messy...

It is small and very portable. It has a handle for carrying and wheels and a long handle (like a suitcase) for easy movement. My toddler spills stuff all the time, I do not want to or will use a bulky huge steam cleaner to get the stains out. I tested this in four areas: one terrible stain and a so called average toddler mess stain, my microfiber couches and my car.
The terrible stain was a baby mess involving me not getting a new diaper fast enough. This took some scrubbing and quite a few swipes with the brush to get out. I did not think it was going to work, and after a ten minute scrub it was gone. The average stain was two swipes and GONE. I was shocked because after the first stain I thought it would take awhile. So my guess is that the original stain was just really, really bad (but it did come out!)

Next were my couches which are usually a mess because of the dogs, who climb on them anytime we turn our heads. It was such an easy and fast cleanup. I rarely clean the couches even though I cannot stand them being dirty because it is such a pain to get out the cleaner. The fact that this is so light, portable and easy- I will finally get some peace with the messy couches and keep them clean.

My husband's favorite use was when I tested it in our car. Again with the messy toddler who gets snacks everywhere but her mouth- and the rug doctor cleaned it all up. My husband hates my messy car, (Ive given up hope) but this was so easy to use and the brush is small enough to get into all the tiny spaces.

The water/cleaner reservoir is very large- if you are cleaning a huge area or all your couches it is a good idea to fill it. However it is advised not to store it with the water tank filled, so for smaller stains, I would only fill it a little so you do not waste any cleaner. (Or store water/cleaner separately)

With 4 kids spills happen on the carpet daily and I'm tried of lugging out the large, heavy carpet cleaner just to spot clean or use on small area's. The RugDoctor spot cleaner is lightweight, portable and yet still powerful. With a retractable handle and carrying handle makes it easy for moving from location to location. The small water tanks offer easy portable filling and emptying options snapping on and off the tank. The cord and hose are a great length when working on spills.

The machine allows for ample maneuvering with wheels and the retractable handle. There's a handheld motorized brush that pushes back and forth for cleaning while the machine is on and sucks up the access water while cleaning. I used this Rugdoctor portable cleaner on our 7 stairs which haven't been cleaned in a while and certainly needed it. I was impressed with job it did cleaning the stairs and it only took me about 20-25 minutes and they were almost dry within an hour which was fantastic. I didn't have to refill or empty the tanks until I was completely finished and even had some water left to do a few spot jobs on the wall to wall carpet in the living room. Emptying the dirty tank and cleaning it was easy with the pop off container and easy screw off cap. I really liked that feature. I'm looking forward to cleaning the car seats, auto carpets and removable mats next. I can think of so many jobs for my lil' Rug Doctor I may even start a list so the kids can give me a hand. Yes, the machine is so easy to operate even the kids wanted to jump in and help clean.

Machine comes with a 8oz professional strength carpet cleaning solution.
Storage of handle and cord also available right on the machine. I think they thought of everything.

This little machine has changed my cleaning life. I love having carpet in our home, but with 2 small children and a very active lifestyle, stains are inevitable. Normally, I just use Resolve, do the best I can and just live with it. For the really big jobs, we have a Hoover SteamVac, but let's face it - you don't always want to clean an entire room of carpet. And you definitely don't want to move out all the furniture and then leave it for several hours to dry. In walks the RugDoctor Portable Spot Cleaner, and takes away that headache.
First off, it comes FULLY ASSEMBLED! Hallelujah! I hate putting things together. And, it comes with a small bottle of their cleaner. Essentially, you just add water. The directions are so clear and simple. I admit that my husband usually has to deal with the small machines around our house, but I was able to handle it all on my own. I really appreciated the extending handle and the wheels! Oh, the wheels. Made getting around the living room and game room so easy. Thankfully, the power cord as well as the hose for the handheld brush are both lengthy, which meant I could tackle several stains in the same general area without having to stop, move the machine, find a new outlet, etc.
But what really impressed me the most was the way it lifted out old stains. I'm talking about spots that likely were dirt or mud or food to begin with, and just sort of became black spots on the off-white carpet. The stains that I had used Resolve on, without making much of a dent. First off, I thought it would take more water than the container held. I was wrong. I also thought those ground-in stains were here to stay. But the motorized handheld brush makes a HUGE difference. I'm not going to tell you the stains disappeared in one pass, but with a little elbow grease on my part, and anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes - depending on the size of the spot - they were eliminated. I was truly impressed. Add in its compact size for easy storage, and this is one product that I highly recommend.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate my review, but my opinions are mine, all mine and not influenced by outside sources.

Two words: Life Saver. Or, they could be "Carpet Saver". Seriously. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 kids, and a hubby who tends to track odd things in on his shoes. Luckily only 50% of our house is carpeted - we just bought our new house in February, our old house (literally old - built in 1817) had all wood floors throughout and no carpets, so now having half our house carpeted is a new adventure in spills, spots and (ahem) hairballs.

Yes, the life of a pet owner is a never ending sequence of miscellaneous clean-ups.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has been a huge help in keeping those random messes clean - I'm picky about keeping things clean, I don't want guests coming over and deciding that having four-legged critters roaming about is a bad thing.

Before getting the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, I was using those spot cleaners in a can - you know the ones, you spray the foam, let it sit, then scrub scrub scrub. And still you have some sort of staining left behind, no matter how much elbow grease you put into action.

The Rug Doctor is easily portable – lighter weight than the full version, with wheels (wheeee!), and a telescoping handle that makes it easy to move the machine wherever you need it most. I had no trouble whatsoever carrying it upstairs to where it was desperately needed, and as I moved from one area to the next to re-clean the areas that weren't cleaned thoroughly from the spray can, the handle made it easy to pick it up and move it short distances.

I love that the top of the motorized brush is clear plastic – being able to see how much water was being sucked up was a plus, so I could gauge how much water was still in the carpet before moving on to the next problem area.

The cord is a good length – I didn't have to keep relocating it moving around our master bedroom, then on to the kids' rooms to clean up random messes. The suction strength is excellent – I felt confident that the underlying yuck was getting sucked up efficiently so there would be no trace left behind.

The size is perfect for our needs – and so easy to store when not in use. I was extremely impressed at what a great job it did getting the residual stains removed from previous accidents – I was worried that they were now set in, since I couldn’t get them completely gone with good old fashioned elbow grease and that spray can spot remover.

My OCD side is very, very happy. The residual stains are completely gone, and I can sleep easier at night.

The machine does come with a small bottle of cleaning solution so you can start tackling those little jobs right out of the box - emphasis on ‘little’, only because it would take forever if you were thinking you would do your whole carpet with this particular unit. They have much bigger ones for the big jobs – there’s a reason this is called a “Spot Cleaner”, and it’s exactly what we needed!

If you have pets, or kids, or a messy husband – I would highly recommend you pick yourself up one of these and have it handy. Your elbow and sanity will be forever grateful.

Rug Doctor is a brand we have used and trusted for many years! I was so excited to learn about this spot cleaner! Let’s face it With Kids and pets, there are always going to be accidents no matter how careful you try to avoid them. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is great powerful little machine to have around for every day spills, tracked in mud, and pet accidents! This machine is very lightweight and easy to tote or pull around, which is very important to me because I hated having to haul my full size carpet cleaner out for small jobs!

I was very impressed how powerful this cleaner was. We were amazed how well it took out a stain in my son’s room that had been there for months. The MOTORIZED BRUSH makes the cleaning process so much easier. I also loved how much a tank of water and cleaner lasted. I have been going around the house cleaning every spot I can find and my carpet now looks great!

The only con that I can find is when I opened the dirty water tank to empty it for the first time I wasn’t aware that the openings on the side of the tank and I spilled the dirty water back on the carpet and myself. My daughter found this very funny so I had to re-clean the area. Now that I am aware, I’ll be sure not to let that happen again. Overall, I give this a 5 star rating and have already recommended to family friends! Rug Doctor really lived up to their name as always and I am so glad I have this little machine in my house!

Having kids means spills. All sorts of spills. Our poor couch has seen packets of KoolAid, sippies of milk, melted chocolate, pretty much everything short of a dirty diaper leak (knock on wood) the problem is our couch cushions do not zip off (doh) so it’s hard to clean. Enter the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.
It may very well have saved my couch from the fate of the curb. The small size makes it easy to maneuver and use, which is a real plus. Since we have mostly hardwoods, anything other than a compact cleaner would be a waste on us. The hand tool with the motorized brush is PERFECT for cleaning spots on the couch. You’d almost never know there were several packets of Kool-Aid were dumped on it.
I love how easy it is empty the wastewater too. With 3 kids running around, the last thing I need is something that’s a hassle. For our family, it’s an ideal solution to keep our couch clean.
Storage is no problem. It’s easy to lift and the cord is easy to store. Which makes this little spot cleaner a winner.

I was sent a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample in exchange for an honest review.

So, my mother-in-law came to stay with us for two weeks (yeah, two weeks!). Even though we have a strict "no drinking in the living room" policy, she seemed to think that it was okay to drink coffee. In the living room. Of course, I don't have to tell you... she SPILLED COFFEE ON MY CARPET. Brand. New. Carpet.

Anyway, enough about her... this is about how the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner saved my marriage. My wife is extremely picky about the house, and likes it to be clean 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I knew I had to fix that huge coffee spot before she got home from work. I whipped out the Rug Doctor, and got started with nothing more than the Instructions booklet and a prayer.

At first, I was a bit intimidated, but that wore off rather quickly. Perhaps because I was frantically trying to clean, or perhaps because the Rug Doctor was extremely simple to use!

My favorite part, besides the compact size, would have to be the fast and simple removable tanks. They're super easy to fill and empty. In the past, I've had less-than-desirable experiences with similar devices. Do you know how gross it is to spill dirty carpet water all over the place because you're having difficulty removing the tank?!

Overall, I'd recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to my friends. It did the job very well - it cleaned my carpet with minimal effort on my part, and totally saved my marriage. ;) That might be stretching it jusssst a bit, but you get the idea. It's super handy!

I received the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to review and put to the test on the stains on our couch from our 18 month old twins. Set up was easy - pretty much just add the soap/water and plug in. A push of a button and the spot cleaner is on. The handle has a button to dispense soap on the stains and a brush to scrub and remove dirt/water. You do need to pay attention while scrubbing so that you don't accidentally hit the soap button again and dispense more.

Our stains on the couch were pretty set in and the material is a light beige color. With just one use the stains were considerably darker. I wasn't expecting them to be completely removed because they were formula and juice stains - which are the worst! I was very impressed with what was removed and how it looked when done.

Overall the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner worked very well, is easy to use, and easy to store.

Side Note: My parents tested it out on the OLD cushions in the RV they recently purchased off Craig's List. There was a dark black stain on one of the cushions and it was completely gone after one use of the spot cleaner. The material was typical 80's material you would see on retro cushions.

I have a big siberian husky, two cats and a five year old daughter so unexpected messes happen frequently in our home. I already own a carpet cleaner but it is not portable or easy to get out for quick action. We have used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner daily since it arrived in our home.
The carrying handle makes it easy to transport the lightweight spot cleaner. Setting up the cleaner for use takes literally just minutes. With the option for a rotating brush, you can use the cleaner for deep cleaning or simply turn off the brush for light spills.

Filling and emptying the tanks is easy. Simply dump out, dry, then roll the cleaner to the pantry for later use.

My five year old daughter has enjoyed cleaning up her own spills with supervision. Unlike small carpet cleaners I've used previously, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has excellent suction and the carpet doesn't feel wet after using the cleaner. The long extension cord makes it easy to use the cleaner anywhere. The portable spot cleaner will get plenty of use on our carpets, furniture, and in the car!
TheFashionableHousewife (Reviewed 7/29/14)
The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is exactly what this family of five needs! From kids and husbands to dogs and chickens, our carpets don't stand a chance at staying clean. Even if they weren't white, I still think it would be hard to keep them clean with the crew I live with. (Apparently the previous owner didn't have kids or pets and thought white carpets would be pretty. UGH!)

I was surprised how easy this portable spot cleaner was to operate. Not as heavy as I expected it to be and even easier to use than the Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machine I rented a few years ago. Not only is this unit convenient to pull out and attack new stains, but it works great on set in stains as well. The motorized brush head is like magic. Does all the work for you! I like how easy it is to clean up the unit when I'm done using it too.

I actually gave our Beagle to my in laws several months ago because despite numerous attempts, he just could not grasp the concept of peeing outside. He wasn't fixed till he was 3 years old so he just wouldn't stop marking all over the house. I've been running around for two days cleaning up all the stains he left behind. What a relief to finally have a solution that works millions of times better than scrubbing the carpet on my hands and knees with a rag, brush and carpet cleaning solution. I wish I had bought something like this years ago!

The Spot Cleaner is easy to drag around the house for any job and it does the work for you. I know I am going to get a ton of use out of this Spot Cleaner between the pets, children and the husband. If you have any of the aforementioned mess makers in your household, this Portable Spot Cleaner is definitely a must! I highly recommend it!!! Granted, I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate this review, but don't worry, all opinions are my own regardless of material connection.
Mom and More (Reviewed 7/29/14)
First off I will say I had high expectations for this product because of previous experience with a traditional Rug Doctor. You know the Rug Doctor cleaners that you can rent in the grocery or hardware store? Yep I have loved renting that in the past but its obviously not something for the occasional spot or stain. I wasn't sure a portable version could be just as tough but it is! I love the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner! It is a simple spot cleaner with no settings to change or complex buttons, just on/off basically!

How did it perform? Since we had no current stains, I tested this cleaner out on my stairs which had some pretty bad set-in stains. I was skeptical since they were set-in stains of who knows what, but the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner worked its magic on them! The stains not only disappeared with a little scrubbing but the carpeting looked new! It is so easy to use, I even had my 7 year old using it on stains I found throughout the house. Right out of the box it is ready to go as it does come with a small bottle of cleaning solution you add to hot water. You get about two full tanks of cleaning power with the solution before you will need to buy another bottle. I found that I was able to clean a lot on one tank and was pretty impressed as another brand spot cleaner I tried in the past seemed to go through cleaning solution so fast.
When your done cleaning, just empty the dirty tank, wrap up the cords and put it away. It's that easy. My favorite feature is probably the handle that allows you to pull it around with you rather than carrying it, although it does come with a nice carrying handle as well. Overall, I'd recommend this cleaner for any household with stains or stainmakers! Its pricey for a portable spot cleaner but it will save you headaches and give you peace of mind of convenience and efficiency.

Disclosure: I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate my review, however, all opinions are my own.
I was surprised that the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was able to clean up a large stain from a glass of tea that my husband spilled right inside the doorway of our bedroom. Since he spilled it on the inside of our room I never really had to worry about someone seeing it as long as I kept the door closed but it drove me crazy and it looked awful, especially since it stained cream colored carpet. All that to say, I let the stain stay there for months before I tried getting it out, then I had little hope that it would ever come out, even with this machine. I made sure to use hot tap water to fill the tank, then I added the cleaning solution and got to work. I sprayed the stain several times using the water and cleaning solution mixture from the handheld brush. Next, I turned on the motorized brush and let it suck up and scrub out the mess. I liked that the wheels allowed the machine to move because I decided to clean the spot by moving to different sides and letting the brush scrub the area from different angles. I almost couldn't believe it when the stain started coming out and then was gone. I wish I'd tried it sooner! Next, I carried it downstairs and was able to get up pet stains from our cat and English Mastiff puppy. I really like that the machine is small and light enough that I can carry it up and down the stairs and that even though it's small, it's still powerful enough to remove stains. I'm really impressed with this machine and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

We get a lot of pet stains on our carpets. We have a large carpet cleaner but it's very inconvenient to get out of the basement and set up, especially for small spots here and there. With the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner I can keep it handy in the closet (due to it's compact size) and take it out whenever I need it. It's lightweight and so easy to use. I can have the stains cleaned in just minutes from the time I pop in the water tanks.

We've used this on several stains and it picked them all up with no trace of the stain left behind.

Clean up was a snap.

If you have carpeting you should invest in this handy carpet cleaning device. After all, spots happen.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has been a lifesaver in my home. Let's do some abstract math: 3 kids under the age of 6 + beige carpets = yikes! We try to enforce the rule of keeping food in the kitchen and toys in the bedroom, but sometimes we mix up the two! Our carpets have been through drink spills, smooshed fruit snacks, potty training accidents, and lots and lots of baby spit up. So is life with kids!

Beige carpets don't stay clean easily (okay, even in my own room), but it's hardly ever convenient to use a full-scale carpet cleaner to clean the entire carpet. I love having the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner, so that I can spot clean where we need it the most.

As you can see in the attached photo, the Rug Doctor did an excellent job. That particular stain had set in, so it took three times of going over it to get it to fade to that extent, but the Spot Cleaner is so quick and simple to use, that it was no trouble at all.

The Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner comes all assembled, and using it is very easy. All you have to do is fill the clean water tank with water and a little bit of the soap (which comes with it!), and then replace the tank into the machine. One button turns the Spot Cleaner on, and another button turns on the motorized brush. You squeeze the trigger while moving the brush over the spot you want to clean, and then you can move the brush back over the same spot, without using the trigger, to help it dry faster.
And that's it! Sit back and watch your stains fade away, along with all your worldly cares! Or at least your home cleanliness cares.

Bottom line: The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner works. It is very quick and easy to use. It will make your home cleaner and your life a little easier.

When I'm getting ready for company I have a list of things to do, like most people. With over 60% of my home being carpeted making sure the floors are "presentable" is at the top of that list. Between pets, foot traffic and inclimate weather my floors are usually worse for wear. That's where the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner comes into play.

I've been using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for several weeks now. The fact that it's light weight as well as portable makes it incredibly easy to get my home in order. I can easily take it from spot to spot with almost no effort. In terms of functionality it far outweighs other options. Options like scrubbing a stubborn stain by hand. Instead of spending a countless amount of time and elbow grease getting tough stains out of the floor I simply bring out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, turn on the motorized brush and watch the spots disappear.

I didn't notice how much of a wonderful job the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was doing until I looked at the area around where I used it. Not only was it getting rid of spills and spots but it was getting rid of who knows what that has been there for who knows how long. Dirt that my regular carpet cleaner has missed. My floors look better than ever and I don't have to spend hours scrubbing.

The ease of use that comes from using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is amazing. I'm no longer stressing over a spilled glass of wine or pet accidents. It's perfect for all of life's little complications and lets me enjoy more and worry less. I am in love!

I have a toddler. I have a boxer. Both are messy alone but when together, my house can get destroyed in a matter of minutes. From pet paws to toddler spills I sometimes feel like I can't keep up. I'm constantly vacuuming up Gold Fish cracker crumbs, dog food chunks and anything else the two eat during the day. To make matters worse, my dog likes to pull food from the kitchen table which ends up leaving major messes on the rug. And let's not even talk about the messes that get tracked through the house during wintertime.

Since I do not own a carpet cleaner, I figured it was time to invest in one. I had heard negative things about certain brands of spot cleaners but had not heard much about the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. First of all, I feel that the Rug Doctor is super affordable. This the first thing I consider when making a purchase. Secondly, I love that I am in charge of what is getting cleaned with this machine. There's no "set it and forget it" type of cleaning option.

The Rug Doctor came with a cleaning solution so it was literally ready to use right out of the box. There was no installation required which is a plus for a busy mom like me. I simply filled the clean water canister with hot water and cleaning solution, turned the machine on and began cleaning.

The machine is a bit on the louder side but that is to be expected with a carpet cleaning machine. I'm completely amazed at how much dirt came off of our living room rug and even the ottoman. I've had stains on that rug for months and to have those disappear in a matter of minutes is pretty awesome.

I'm really loving the multiple carry options that this machine has. I like that I can use the handle or pull the luggage-style handle up and roll the carpet cleaner. I do wish the cord was a bit longer but I an definitely work with it. My problem is that I get carried away cleaning spots all over the room and run out of cord.

Thanks to the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner I no longer have to stress about toddler and doggy spills on the rugs.

I am really loving this Spot Cleaner, it works great on cleaning up spills, pet issues, and everything in between. It is nice and light weight so it doesn't take much to pick it up and move to where you need it. It also have a retractable handle and wheels, so you can roll it to where you are wanting if you don't want to carry it. I found it did a really good job at getting the spots out on our recliner from our dog, and a few oil stains from my husbands work clothes (works in oil field). I also used it on our carpet in the kitchen and living room and it really seemed to pick up the dirt and grime that was in the carpet. The water was a really dirty brown, so I would say it really worked wonders. Once it dried from being cleaned, the spots were gone!
What I think is really nice about this spot cleaner is it gets really close to the edge of the wall. So if you want to get a spot cleaned, with a regular size I find I struggle with getting a close reach. This would also be great for steps, it can move any which way and get in the small area's and work great.

I will for sure recommend this to my friends and family! It is really going to save me time, and it is nice and compact so it doesn't take up to much room!!

I have never been so thrilled to clean my carpets. I did receive a Rug Doctor to review, but all opinions are my own. I was VERY skeptical on how it would work because we have some very old and set stains on our carpet. We strategically placed rugs or furniture to cover them.

The Rug Doctor amazes me with how well it works and how easy it is to use. We had stains on our carpet from when we bought the house over a year ago--gone. Red dye food stains from the kids--gone. Cat hairball stains--gone. I almost wanted to use this spot cleaner one little space at a time across my whole floor, haha.

We've also used the Rug Doctor on our tan microfiber couch that had stains on it from food/drinks and it seriously looks like a new couch. I am almost hunting for stains now just to keep using this thing, it's so fun to watch the stains disappear <--- "you know you're old when..."

It has a useful carry handle, but I use the extendable handle and roll it around on its wheels. It's super easy to move, the brush sits right on the front of it and wraps in place when not in use. My 4yo helps out, turning on the base of the Rug Doctor for me and then the power button on the brush (which causes part of the brush to vibrate/scrub). The amount of water it holds lasts forever - I mean, I covered stains in 2 carpeted rooms on the first use of it and still had some water left. The containers pop right out to empty out the clean and dirty water.

It's obviously not for cleaning your entire carpeted floor, it's a portable brush for spot cleaning... and with 2 toddlers and 2 cats, that is perfect for us. I've been telling everyone about how well it works and definitely recommend it!

I can't tell you enough how much I love our new Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner! I have a cat, a teen, a toddler who is potty training and a husband that loves working on cars (and sits on the sofa afterwards!). This has been such a huge asset in my house already.

Our sofa and loveseat, both relatively new, were cleaned today using our Rug Doctor and I'm embarrassed at the amount of dirt that this machine removed. Granted, we have dark brown sofas so much of the dirt is hidden, but I had no idea they were this bad :-(

We have a full sized carpet cleaner, but the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is able to clean carpeting on stairs much more easily, I'm able to clean up small messes and spills without lugging our larger cleaner around (and wasting the excess water and soap in its larger tank) and we've even taken it outside to clean the carpeting and upholstery in the car!

The motorized hand tool is awesome at replenishing the pile of the carpet and the fabric on the upholstery. We're moving into a new home soon and this will be an amazing addition in our home with brand new carpeting and furniture!

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner as part of a review program and I think my dog just knew it was coming. Literally, the day they dropped it off, she had an accident on the rug in our master bedroom! First, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box to see that everything was already together and assembled. The direction booklet was really straightforward and got me started quickly. The cleaner has GREAT suction -- I didn't have to go over the area as much as I have with other rug cleaners (both portable and push ones). And the cleaning fluid has a nice scent -- it isn't overwhelming at all. The machine also has a nice, long cord so that you can easily move around the room without unplugging/replugging as you go. The cleaning head includes a brush feature that can be turned on or off (another nice option since I don't always like to use the brushes as they can be hard on the carpets sometimes). I cleaned two different types of our wall-to-wall carpets during the first week and they both look really nice - stains are gone and all!

I've had a portable rug cleaner in the past (a Bissell) but it only had a carry option -- the wheels and extending handle on the Rug Doctor are really nice to have when you're moving around the room or using it to clean the stairs. I also like the clear side tanks so I can easily see how much water/cleaner I have remaining and when I need to empty the 'gross' water. There were only two minor items that I would change -- first, the cleaning head does not click into the unit; instead it rests in an indented area on the front of the cleaner. And my other 'I wish they did this' item is that there is not mark on the tank if you're only cleaning a small area. You should use hot water when you clean but the ratio of water to soap is given for a full tank. I'm sure I could guesstimate the amount of water/soap for half a tank but it would be nice if there was a marked measure line like there is for a full tank.

My son spilled almost a whole bottle of shampoo on his rug. He cleaned it up as good as could with a towel, hoping to not have to tell me. Of course, when I found it, it had gone sticky hard, and collected a huge amount of dirt. I wasn't sure the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner would get it up. I was afraid I'd have to rent a huge steam cleaner, or hire someone. Boy was I wrong! Of course, we had to work on it for about 30 minutes, but it got up all the dirt, and shampoo. Now the carpet is good as new, and not one bit sticky!
Since then, we've used it to clean our cars as well. My husband had spilled soda on the carpet in his truck, but the Rug Doctor did such a beautiful job of cleaning it, we didn't even bother to take it to be detailed! I love that it is so easy to maneuver, and so small it will fit anywhere. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is the perfect cure for all those stains!

So, I forgot a bottle of sunscreen in the one vehicle that my fiance and I both share, and it exploded in the hot summer sun. There was sunscreen everywhere! It was all over the back seat and the rug on the floor, and even on the back of the passenger side chair. Since it is our one and only vehicle, we try to take really good care of it, and I thought my fiance was going to be super mad at me for making such a mess. I tried scrubbing it with soap and hot water, but no go. Luckily, this Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner came at just the right time, and saved me and the car!

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is so easy to use, and I love how small and lightweight and easy it is to move around (love that it's on wheels!). The stains had been sitting there for a few weeks, so I wasn't sure how well it would work, but gave it a try. I went over the stains a few times to be sure I got it all out, but I did notice quite a big difference after just the first use. Now, I can't even tell that they were there.

I have a 14 month old daughter, 2 cats, and wall-to-wall carpeting inside our home, so I am sure that I will be using this Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner much more into the future.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to review, and all opinions and experiences here are my own.

Our dog Grace has a habit of finding and chewing pens and markers on the same spot on our living room carpet. We have named it her “chewing spot.” Needless to say, this area of the carpet is so difficult to keep clean. As Grace has grown, we have less and less issues with her chewing, but it still happens from time to time. We recently used the Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner to clean up after Grace’s latest find–a ballpoint pen.

I loved that the compact machine was so simple to use. My sons, ages 9 and 14, were able to help out and easily figure out how to operate the Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner. There is one on and off switch, and two tanks: one for clean water and the other for dirty water. The boys quickly figured out how to fill the tank and turn the machine on, then use the motorized brush to work on the pen. The spot came right out!

We used carpet shampoo (that came with the Rug Doctor) to remove the stain, and then filled the water tank up with plain water to rinse the soap out.

The Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner is small and easy to store, and doesn’t require you to carry it from room to room–it comes with a long handle for easy carrying. Also, the cord wraps right up in the back of the machine. I’d definitely recommend this product to friends and family who need a small portable spot remover for their carpets and upholstery.

I was given a rug doctor to facilitate my review. All experiences and opinions are my own.

I was very excited to try my Rug Doctor once it arrived because with 5 people living in the house, our carpet needs some help. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner worked perfectly on the spots I found on the carpet around our house. It is easy to use and move from spot to spot. It comes with everything you need to get started. The included cleaning solution lasts for a long time so I was glad for that.

I recommend using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on manageable spots. I tried to do my stairs, and while they do look a little better, it was hard to do such a large area.

Overall, I love my Rug Doctor. I don't have to cringe whenever some has juice or something that could spill on my carpet anymore, because I have my solution right here!

The day before I received the Portable Spot Cleaner to review, my son kicked over a full cup of coffee on our main area rug. It wasn't just coffee, either...it was sugar, cream, and coffee, so it was extra sticky and dark, too. I was able to set up the Spot Cleaner quickly and get the stain out the next day...no problems! There was nothing to put together or figure out...just out of the box, add water, plug in, add the cleaner...easy peasy.

I love the wheels on the Rug Doctor so I don't have to lug it all over the house. I can zoom from room to room and quickly treat each spot on all the rugs we have...and you know we HAD many! Having three boys makes quite a huge mess very quickly. The massive suction on this thing is impressive. We had stains that were three years old that came out nicely. It also helps that you don't have to wait all day with fans blowing on the carpet and keep the kids off, waiting for it to dry.

I also liked the and bristles and retractable handle on the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner...these features definitely make my job a lot easier. My son also loves using the Spot Cleaner, so that's a definite plus that it's not too hard for him. :)

I anticipate that we will be using the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner many times in the future. It definitely makes freaking out about carpet stains a thing of the past!

I have two large dogs and a toddler in my carpeted Florida home, so we have to take great care in keeping up with our household chores. If we skip a day, we end up with messy floors, unique smells, and too much clutter. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was something I had been wanting for a bit since it is compact and easy to store. We do not have a lot of closet or garage space in my home, so I didn’t want a large appliance without a place to store it. That isn’t a problem with this portable spot cleaner. It is small enough to fit in our linen closet!
Anyway, back to our carpets. We have tile floors with carpets and rugs strategically placed in each room. Our previous method of cleaning our rugs included taking them outside with a hose and a stick. We frequently would forget about them and they would get rained on and have to be washed again. I am SO happy that we do not have to that anymore.
With the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, we were able to get cleaning immediately. It was ready to use right out of the box, and the instructions were easy to follow. There was a sample of the carpet soap included in the box, and we were ready to go! I did let some of the darker stains sit with the soap solution for a minute or so, and then I used the Rug Doctor to clean it up. I liked that you could use the trigger to make the solution come out, and the brush piece was easy to maneuver.
If you have a small space and are hesitant about buying a carpet cleaner, I would consider this Rug Doctor. It’s small enough to store and easy enough to use in a small apartment. Yet, it’s also powerful enough to cover large areas in a home too. It’s a versatile product, and I’m so glad carpet cleaning isn’t a chore anymore!

I tried the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on some old spots (pet stains? spills from kids?) on white berber carpeting in a highly trafficked bedroom (the carpet was there before we had kids...whoever thought white carpet was a good idea must not have had kids!) The spots had been on the carpet for months, and I tried using carpet cleaner to get them out with no success. After an initial (and skeptic) attempt at cleaning the spots, I was shocked that the spots disappeared so fast and with no scrubbing or physical effort on my part! You cannot even see an outline of where the spots were, and it was so easy to use that I ended up looking for spots on carpeting in other rooms to clean!

We also have dark colored couches in the kids' play room that always are covered in spots of unknown food and drink. I decided to give the Rug Doctor a go on the couches as well. It lifted the spots up quickly and efficiently. It is something I plan to do once a week to keep the couches looking clean.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was extremely quick and easy to set up. You take it out of the box, fill it up with clean water and the cleaning solution, and you are ready to go. There's nothing to put together. It's also lightweight and really easy to move around. The cleaning solution smells great and doesn't smell like a heavy-duty cleaner. It's also super easy to empty the tank once you are done cleaning. And it's amazing to see how much dirt and other gunk it picks up!

I have recommended the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to many friends, as it's affordable and effective. It's also so easy to use that it doesn't seem like a project to get it out for use (it isn't one of those "gadgets" that will sit in your closet unused simply because it's a pain to do so.) As a mom of three young children and a dog, I definitely will continue to recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to others!

We have 4 cats, 3 dogs, 2 preschoolers, and a teenage boy. As you can imagine, messes happen, and often! Whether it's a spilled drink, grapes crushed into the carpet, mud, dirt, or even pet messes, it seems I am cleaning my carpet a few times a week, at least! This can be pretty annoying, especially when using a huge, bulky, full-sized shampooer.

Luckily, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner does everything our large shampooer does, only better. The suction and scrubbing action is absolutely amazing, and this unit is highly portable. It's lightweight, and I love the luggage-style handle. This makes it very easy to move from place to place.

We have used this on SO many different stains, from blood and mustard to cat gak and doggie diarrhea. Some of these stains were in odd places, so I can't really say how long they had been there before treating them. We have found that no matter how old or set-in the stain, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner removed them completely and quickly.

The scrubbing brush is motorized, which definitely saves time while cleaning, and it also really gets down deep into carpets. I have found that when using this to clean pet messes, we don't experience any remarking later on. This is a huge plus, since with so many pets, getting stains and odor out is key when trying to prevent accidents.

Changing the water and cleaner is also very easy. (MAJOR brownie points there!) Usually, I have to have my husband use our large shampooer since it's hard to snap the pieces in. With this Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner, I can have it ready to go in no time flat.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with pets, kids, or both! It's been an absolute life-saver, and keeps our carpets looking clean and fresh between deep cleanings. This little gem is portable and powerful, making it our go-to product for any messes that come our way.

I received this product to facilitate this review from Rug Doctor. I own 3 cats and 3 kids which make messes constantly. I have already used the spot cleaner on the fly 4 times in 2 weeks. I just bought a new white couch and have removed jelly, hot chocolate, soccer dirt & diaper leakage!

Once you get the Rug Doctor set up it is super easy to just grab & go. It does no take any longer to sweep then it does to spot clean. The tank is a breeze to clean so you truly can clean as you spill without all the fuss!

I would recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for anyone who makes messes!!

As a mom with five kiddos, I need something easy, portable and that can handle the job! My husband and I put the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to the test this past weekend. We had some spots that needed cleaned between our garage and the kitchen. It's the main thoroughfare in our house and it's how our 12 yr old takes the trash outside for trash day - so you can imagine how bad it looked. Yuck!

My husband took the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner out of the box and got it all ready to go. It was easy. Once he started spot cleaning the carpet, we was both surprised at how much cleaner the carpet looked within just a few minutes. We had 5 or 6 pretty good sized spots that you wouldn't even know were there! Don't let the size fool you, this machine was powerful enough to remove our old and worn in spots!

If you're in the market for a portable spot cleaner, we would definitely recommend this Rug Doctor to anyone! If you have small children, I think this product is a must have item! I love that it doesn't take up a lot of room when storing it and the easy carry handle is great! The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner met and exceeded my expectations!

We have 5 kids... plus their friends... running circles around our home. Quite literally some days. There are not many areas that could not be considered high traffic. With this many people in the house, every square inch is utilized. Plus, we have carpet in about 80% of the house. Carpet. Kids. Life. All together means the carpet may suffer.

Fortunately the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has been amazing at cleaning up. That forgotten blue snow-cone that "someone" mysteriously spilled? We put the spot cleaner to the test on it since it has been a few weeks. We set up the machine and decided to use the rotating brush to break up the stain. We then went over the stain a few times as we liberally sprayed the shampoo into the spot. Watching the blue liquid disappear into the Rug Doctor was fascinating for me... and fun for the kids.

We went back over the post after it dried to get any last remnants of the stain and you could not even tell it was ever there. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner performed just as well as the commercial machines we have rented before. This was much simpler. Light and easy to handle. Plus, convenient to pull out and maneuver when needed.

Looking forward to tackling more spots around the house... and I am sure many more to come in the future.

We are a household of 2 active kids that love to track dirt in the house, a cat and a dog that likes to make the house her own with her messes and accidents. We just moved to a new house, and every mess is critical to clean up. You know how that ‘new’ is! With all the dirt that is tracked through our home, I haven’t had a real way to clean them up and make sure it stays clean and smells good. I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to try out on our messes. In the past, we had a rug cleaner, but it was so big, so bulky and it fell apart in just a couple of months after we bought it. I first tried the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on our couch, chair and ottoman. Our dog likes to chew on her rawhide bones on the furniture. If you know how rawhide is like when a dog chews on it, it’s nasty. The slimy rawhide gets everywhere and it’s not easy to get clean with soap, water and a rag. I tried everything to get this gunk off my couch. When I got the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, I was happy to find out that in a matter of about 2 minutes, my entire chair and ottoman were rawhide free and my furniture looked brand new!! Here are a few of my thoughts, broke down.

Pros:
• Lightweight
• Easy to tote along throughout the house with the pop up carry handle and retractable handle that you can pop up to pull the cleaner to another area in your home.
• The hose is 5.5 feet long. This makes it great and easier to use the brush to clean things like out of reach carpet stains, furniture, curtains and even stairs.
• The tanks are bigger than I’ve ever seen on a portable spot cleaner. The clean water tank is 64 ounces and the dirty water tank is 38 ounces.
• The power cord is 15 feet long so you’re able to move around and not have to worry if the cleaner will reach that next spot.

Cons:
• My only con, thus far, is when you tug on the hose to reach your cleanable spots, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner tips over.

Overall, I am highly impressed with the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner and I’ve tried 2 others in the past. This one takes the cake and the price is cheaper than the others that we’ve bought.

I received the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for review purposes but all opinions are my own.

In a house with two children and an aging dog spots are inevitable. I was so pleased I was able to try out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner in our home. We also just had an addition put on to our house with many areas with new rugs. I have tried two different Bissell Spotlifters in the past and have had issues with their cleaning ability and charging. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was far superior.

The design is fantastic and what struck me at first. Not only is there a handle to make it easy to carry but it is the perfect shape and size to be put on to stairs. Stairs are a high traffic area in our house and where I needed to start. We just had new off-white rugs put on to the stairs. Unfortunately one day while carrying a bag of trash from the kitchen down the stairs to the garage there was liquid dripping from the bag. On every stair going down there was a dark brown drip of what looked like Cola. The Rug Doctor worked perfectly on it removing a dot at a time as I went up the stairs with it.

I next went to an area in our living room where my dog had vomited. Now as he is older he tends to have stomach issues. The color was bright yellow and I was nervous it would not work as I have had to spend days in the past going over it with Resolve spray. After several passes over it with the Rug Doctor you would have never known it was there. I was amazed!

It is a fantastic product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Now when the kids yell "Mom I spilled something on the rug" I won't panic, I will just grab the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner and be confident the stain will be gone in no time.

I have a light beige carpet in about 80% of my home and if you consider that I have a very active 7 year old girl…that is a mistake that I am not planning to repeat and while we are planning to correct that mistake, it is not in our budget for this year, so I have to find ways to deal with what we have for the time being.
Our carpet gets really dirty in the most traffic areas, so getting rid of the stains is not an easy task, but it is one that is always on top of my list!
A few days ago I was given the opportunity to try the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.
The Portable Spot Cleaner is a fairly compact unit that features a powerful handheld motorized brush with great suction power that is fairly compact: (With Handle Extended) H: 33.56" W: 16.03" D: 10.93”, and (Handle Retracted) H: 15.61" W: 16.03" D: 10.93". The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is designed in a square like shape which makes it easier to store, and in addition, the 5.5ft hose can be easily stored within the unit to save storage space.
The collapsible handles make the unit very maneuverable and easy to move around.
The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is very easy to operate. It does not need to be set up and can be working as soon as you pull the unit out of the box.
In order to start using this unit, all you need to do is fill the water tank with hot water from the faucet till you reach the water mark line and then pour in the cleaning solution. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner comes with an 8 oz. trial size of cleaning solution. The trial size cleaning solution is enough to use twice before you need to buy any solution, so you can really start cleaning as soon as the unit gets home.
You can even control how much solution you add to a specific spot
The unit and the motorized brush are powered separately so you have better control of the brush.
The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has an On/Off switch to control the motorized brush. You also have a trigger on the back of the brush that you can use to release the cleaning solution as desired. The great thing about this is that it lets you add as much or as little solution as needed.
The brush is the perfect size to get into hard to reach spots
Because of the brush size and design, you can access spots that you wouldn’t be able to clean with a full sized machine. It works great on edges and tight spaces; In fact it also gives you a more precise maneuverability that adds to the cleaning power of the spot cleaner.
Changing the water in either water tank is also very easy…Be aware that the dirty water tank has an open spot on the back, so you will need to be careful not to spill it when you remove the tank.
I was surprised and impressed on how well the machine works. While this machine is a spot cleaner meant for specific areas, I was able to improve the look of relatively large carpet areas with this machine. It might take longer, but it is doable …I wouldn’t probably do a whole room though.
Over all the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is a sturdy, quality machine.
As I mentioned before, the unit works better than I would have anticipated. It is easy to use and does not take up too much space.

We have two kids and a dog. That should about sum up the reasons we need our carpets cleaned often. The problem, though, is that I hate lugging our big carpet cleaner out to use, it takes too long, and then we have to basically stay out of the house while the carpet dries. I also don't like having to pay for professional cleaning. I've wanted a spot cleaner for so long, and I was sent the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for review (however, all these opinions and experiences are honest and my own).

First things first, right out of the box it was pretty easy to figure out how it all works. There was nothing to piece together, it was already assembled and more or less ready to go. I just had to fill one of the removable reservoirs with clean, hot water and add the included cleaning solution (the cleaning solution included is a deluxe sample and seems to be enough for about two full uses). There were easy-to-read fill lines to indicate how much water and how much cleaning solution. After that it was basically plug and go. I didn't even need to wait for it to warm up. The handle/suction head has a spinning brush that you can turn on and off. It also is where the solution is sprayed from.

I have a large living room rug that is white and beige and has spots all over it from spilled kids drinks and snacks. I picked a spot and just got started! I used the handle to spray on the area and then pulled it along to scrub the area and suction up the water. I could also turn the scrubbing bristles off so it would just suction. Either way, it worked great. It was a little like my eyes had to adjust because I didn't even believe what I was seeing. The spots that I thought were going to be there forever were just... gone! There was no harsh smell, I used the suction over the spot a few times and it dried pretty quickly.

I also tried it out in the backseat of my car, just to get an idea of how it works on upholstery. I had a set-in stain of spilled milk or something like that where my kids sit. I used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on it and thought it didn't disappear, it did lighten considerably and appear clean, even though you could still see remnants of the spot. Again, not strong odor. Using the unit out in the garage with my car was great because of the handle that pulls up and is easily to pull along the cleaner.

I like how compact it is. There's a carry handle, and then the retractable handle that both sit flush with the body of the cleaner. The hose and head wrap around the front and are stored nicely, and the generously long power cord also has a wrap storage in the rear of the unit. It's not too heavy at all, even will a filled container of water. Because of it's portability and long nozzle, hose, and power cord, it's really great for stairs, using in a car, or on furniture.

I'm excited to see what more I can do with this. I'm going to use it mostly for stains as they come, rather than wait to have to do a whole carpet cleaning. That should lighten the problem a lot. Since I'm a mom and don't have a tone of time, this will come in such handy because it is so easy to use! Definitely worth it and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Two months ago we brought home a puppy. Not an adult dog we affectionately call our puppy, but a bona fide puppy that squirms and snuggles and piddles.

That's right. Puppies don't come potty trained. Nor do they know how to wipe their own feet when they come in the house after walking through the mud. It's like having another kid. Did I mention I have 3 of those, ranging in age from 3-12 years old?

Last year, I had my carpets and upholstery professionally cleaned. The results were fantastic, but with 3 kids and a dog in the house, the price point isn't practical for every time they spill a cup of milk in the living room or the puppy has an accident while housetraining.

Luckily for me, I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate this review (all opinions, of course, are my own). It's been put to the test in my living room over the past couple weeks and I feel well-qualified to share the lowdown on the features.

Does It Work?
Yes, it absolutely works. It's not going to perform miracles, but it does the job for spot cleaning. I've found that it's great for preventing stains when the kids spill juice on the carpet or couch, since I can blot the excess liquid right away with a paper towel, then use the Rug Doctor to deep clean the fibers. There were a couple mystery stains in the carpet I tried it on that had been there forever (I think they might have been grease from a workboot from a contractor) that the Rug Doctor didn't get out, but it did make the stain less noticeable. Considering the stain had been there forever, I still consider that a win.

Is It Easy To Use?
Another yes for this one - it's totally easy to use. All you have to do is fill the tank with water and solution, pop it back in, and turn it on. The toughest part is going to be filling the solution tank - it's pretty big, so it's helpful to have a second person to hold the tank while you keep an eye on the water level as it's filling. TIP: if you're only cleaning a small spot, use something besides the tank to measure the water and cleaning solution. Using the fill lines on the tank means making a pretty big batch of solution, but if you read the back of the solution bottle, you can get the exact ratio of water to concentrate needed so you can mix up a smaller amount.

Is It Heavy?
I don't think it's very heavy. I'm 5'4" and average build, and I have no problem moving it around the house, especially since it's on wheels and has a convenient carry handle. If you're worried about the weight when it's full of cleaning solution, use my tip above to mix a smaller amount so you're not carrying as much water weight with you as you're spot cleaning around your house or car.

Overall, I think this is a great little machine. I love that it all the hoses & cords are contained within the unit. It tucks away nicely in the bottom of my pantry without taking up tons of room and is easy to move around the house. That means it gets used more often than a big carpet cleaner. It's the perfect size for puppy piddle spots and spills from the kids.

Our dog was recently diagnosed with cancer. She's lived a wonderful, full life at 11-years-old, but is now seeing some dreary days. She's having a difficult time making it to the door and outside to go the bathroom. As a result, our rugs are taking a beating. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has literally saved the day.

The product came packaged nicely, was very easy to remove, and had minimal excessive packaging (which is good for the environment). It arrived almost completely assembled, so there was no fiddling with parts or hefty directions. The directions for cleaning are easy to follow.

The unit is definitely portable - equipped with a roller-luggage retractable handle and long reaching cord. There is no need to bend over or pick it up while in use.

I was impressed with how easy it was to fill and replace the tank. On several machines that I previously owned, it was like trying to fit a square into a hole. This is not the case with the portable Rug Doctor. The machine is extremely lightweight, so that even the kiddos can help, when needed. The nozzle and sprayer are easy to operate, the scrubber is motorized to aid in cleaning, and the suctioning is powerful! The rug was left feeling only slightly damp, not sopping wet like experienced with other brands and models. The dry time was quick, too. We didn't have to wait hours upon hours before we walked on the surfaces.

The spots that we tackled were between a month and a few days old. Each and every spot came clean--even the nastiest that appeared to have been accidentally stepped in by our pooch (who no longer has the best balance either).

There are several places where the dog has tried to hide the fact that she had an accident. Most rug cleaners would not be able to reach these spots. The compact design and portability of this Rug Doctor machine is second to none. It was able to get to even the most elusive areas.

I highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to anyone with kids, pets, or lively life partners. It's ideal for quick cleanups and can tackle tough jobs.

I was so excited to receive a Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner for two reasons - I have 2 boys (need I say more!) and I have a long-haired cat that tends to get hairballs (which means cat throw-up on the floor).

In the past, when my cat would throw up (or I'd see obvious dirt stains on the carpet), I would use a spray-on cleaner that would mostly do the job of eliminating the stains, but I didn't truly feel like the carpet was clean.

To test the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner, I decided to clean two areas of my floor-to-floor carpet - by the front door where I had several set-in dirt stains and a spot with a lingering cat throw-up stain. The Spot Cleaner comes pre-assembled so set up was super easy to get started.

I love the motorized brush, and the suction was good for pulling the water out of the carpet. And, I was amazed that the stains came out of the carpet, and it looked great when I was done! I'm going to use the machine on my couch and my husband's car next.

I would recommend the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner if you have young kids or pets - it's perfect for cleaning up small messes in the carpet.

I am in love with my new Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner! I can't believe I waited as long as I did to use it after it arrived. I have two kids and a dog. That means spots appear on my rugs and I have no idea how they got there. The RD Spot Cleaner got rid of spots that my other spot cleaner could not. It comes out of the box ready to go and I love that! The suction on this is great and I love the powered brush. The powered brush really helps to get the set stains out of my rug.
I really like the handles on this cleaner. Not only does it have a carry handle that tucks away nicely when not in use, but there is an extendable handle and wheels so you can roll it around the house! So, while yes, it has some weight to it (still not that bad), you can use the wheels and roll it around each floor in your house with ease. Also, the weight of this really is not that bad for a good quality spot cleaner.
If I were to find anything bad about this cleaner, it would be that it cleaned one spot on my rug too well. But really, that isn't truly a bad thing. I did receive a Rug Doctor Portable Spot cleaner to facilitate this review but all thoughts are completely my own. This thing really is a great spot cleaner!

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner as a sample to review. The opinions and experiences are all mine.

We have a new puppy. (Do I really need to further explain why I needed this?) She has her favorite spots, and although we have been cleaning up accidents as they happen, I wanted to deep clean the carpet in those areas. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was perfect for this.

Things I like:

The machine is easily portable. I love the wheels and the telescoping handle that make it easy to move the machine wherever you need to use it. I also used the handle to pick it up for short distances and it wasn't too heavy, even with water in it.

The cord was a good length.

I really liked the suction strength.

I liked that the top of the motorized brush is clear plastic. This allowed me to see how much water was being sucked up so I had a better idea of how much more water was still in the carpet. I felt that the carpet was significantly less wet than with other similar products I've tried.

I really love the size. It is ultra-easy to store.

It did a good job getting up the most recent puppy mark/stain. It also did a good job on some older carpet stains.

The bottle of cleaning solution that comes with the box seems to be enough for two (maybe three) uses.

I did not notice any leaking whatsoever.

Other things:

Be sure to open the bottle of solution before you fill the clean water tank with hot water. The tank can't be placed on a flat surface (you have to hold it) and it's difficult to juggle the full tank while also navigating the child-proof lid and protective seal on the bottle of cleaning solution.

The motorized brush on a tube is the only cleaning part of the machine (not sure why I thought you set it on a spot and let it clean). That's fine, but it does mean that you have to be bent over the spot to use it and it does take some muscle power to press down on the carpet. So it really is a spot cleaner, rather than something to use on a large area.

Why I ever thought off-white rugs in a bedroom were a good idea, I’ll never know. Between the dog and the husband spilling coffee as he walks into the bedroom (as well as other food products), we had spots. I really only needed a rug cleaner that would quickly take care of the smaller messes in between major cleanings.

I love the portability and storage of this spot cleaner, it’s light enough for me to do myself and has the scrubbing power that I need. It can be rather loud, but I’ve found that the full room carpet cleaners that I’ve used are noisy as well, so I didn’t expect this to be any different.

It does a phenomenal job on new stains, and has even removed much of what’s been ground in over time. The BIGGEST plus for me was the motorized hand-held brush, as I was also able to clean the carpeted floor mats in my car. WIN-WIN

We got a new dog a few months ago, and while we love him he sure does make messes. He came to us not quite housebroken, and he seems to have a sensitive stomach. So I have been cleaning up vomit and pee with paper towels and spray on cleaner, and you could still see the spots where the stain was. The Rug Doctor did a fantastic job of cleaning up these spots, even though some were a few months old. I love how small it is, and how easy it is to put together. We used to have a full sized carpet steamer, but even though it worked it was so big and hard to use we rarely bothered. This fits in the corner of laundry room and is easy to wheel out when needed. I especially like the retractable handle so I don't have to bend over to push it around.

Cleaning the old stains took a little bit of pressure on the nozzle, but not too much. After I saw how well it worked I had my teenage son crawl around on all the carpets getting out stains, and my carpets look better than they have in months. I think using this as stains happen will really help keep them from looking worn. I'd recommend this to anyone who has young kids or pets, since stains are inevitable with them around.

We get lots of stains on our carpet, many of which are caused by my daughter spilling things on the floor what she is playing. It’s a pain to drag out the full sized carpet cleaner all the time and scrubbing them by hand usually doesn’t do much. We hoped that the spot cleaner would be able to easily take care of the stains…both the new and old ones.

First of all, the unit comes completely assembled in the box. All I had to do was pull it out of the box and plug it in. It has two handles: a small carry handle and a pull out handle that you can use to roll the cleaner around. The hose rolls up in the bottom and the cleaning handle sits in a cradle on the front.
I tested it out on a year-old stain (from watermelon juice) and a recent stain (melted Popsicle). The water tank is very easy to take off and put back on. Due to its shape, you can’t set it down while you fill it and add the cleaning solution, making that part a little awkward. Once the tank is back on, you are good to go.

I was absolutely floored at how well it was cleaning up the stains, especially the old one which the regular carpet cleaner never go up. I sprayed both spots fairly well with the brush before turning on the motorized part. I only had to make a few passes for the stains to come up. There also wasn’t a lot of water left either and it took only a few minutes for the carpet to completely dry.

Overall, I am very impressed with the spot cleaner. I can’t wait to use it on several other spots around the house.

We are a house that is constantly filled; two adults, three cats, two cats and a dog. With little ones pulling things down (usually a drink) we have many spots that appear on the carpet. (Not to mention a dog who always appears to bring something in the house!)

We have a big carpet cleaner, but I hate lugging it out of hiding and filling it to clean a few spots here and there so this portable spot cleaner is perfect.

The Rug Doctor is much, much smaller than our carpet cleaner and lighter by far. It has two handles - one that allows me to lift it and another that pulls up and out so that I can lean it back and roll it where I need to go.

We had a large soda stain next to our couch from one of the kids spilling daddy's soda so that was where I was working. My main mission was to test this spot cleaner on this large spot that had already been there for months.

Took me less than 5 minutes for it to fully disappear! I was impressed!

The spinning brushes make the entire process so much easier and it didn't take nearly as much elbow grease as I expected to pull out a set in stain. (And hubby loved it so much he kept crawling around the floor cleaning any spot he could find!)

I will say, it is loud (vacuum cleaner loud) and I would recommend that the free bottle of cleaner be packaged differently (as ours did spill) but neither of these things impacted my thought on the actual Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.

I would definitely recommend this for a friend.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own. My portable spot cleaner couldn't have come at a better time...literally! As a mom to a dog and toddler we encounter lots of spills and our carpet can take a beating. The day my spot cleaner arrived was a day that both my dog and toddler got a little crazy outside and ended up tracking a bunch of mud into the house. There were muddy paw and foot prints all over my family room carpet. I couldn't wait to put this spot cleaner to work. First I loved how simple the set up was. I really loved the size and how it was easy to handle and maneuver which made carpet cleaning a breeze! The suction worked great to quickly remove the mud from my carpet. Easy peasy. I've used steam cleaners in the past and I usually have to go over the stain a couple of times before it fully removes it. Not with the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner. It lifted the mud up in one suction. I was very impressed and would highly recommend it to anyone with pets and kids and high traffic carpet areas.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

My husband and I were very excited to received our new Rug Doctor. At first, I was wondering if the compact spot cleaner would be able to get our mammoth carpet jobs done, but this product far exceeded our expectations.

We have four kids. Three of these kids are younger boys, and one is a teenage girls. When we moved into our home two years ago, our carpets were pristine because the previous owners did not have any kids. That didn't last long. Anything and everything that can be dropped, spilled, wiped, or spewed onto this carpet has been, and up until now, I've done my best to get down on my hands and knees and scrub.

I was absolutely amazed when a stain (from a year and a half old "spew" - I'll spare the details) came up within minutes with the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. Then, across the room, we made huge progress on getting up a red energy drink spill (more like purposely dumped by a 2 year old). It's no longer bright red! With just one treatment, it has faded to light pink. We're going to try again soon, and we're hopefully that the stain will eventually be so light that it will not be seen.

I love that the spot cleaner is so portable, that we took it out to the carport and used it on the uphosltery in our car. The previous owner of our car was a smoker, and when water is spilled or dripped onto the seats, it leave a soot/smoke ring that makes us look pretty trashy! After using the spot cleaner on the seats for about 30-45 minutes, there was a noticeable difference, and no longer smell pungent cigarette smoke odors when we turn on the A/C now!

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is light weight, it's fun to use, an the cleaner that comes with it knows how to do it's job. I really like the fact that even though it uses water/cleaner to get the carpet and upholstery clean, it also sucks the majority of the moisture back into the holding tank so that you're not left with soaking wet floors. The dry time is pretty quick.

My favorite features:

- Size: The system is so compact that it's easy to use and easy to store. HUGE plus with a large family in a small house!
- Portable on Wheels: I love the "luggage" like retractable handle where I can pull the Rug Doctor around the room or carport without having to bend over and pick it up.
- Scrubber: The scrubber works great, but what's best about it is that part of it can be turned on to give a motorized scrub while cleaning.
- Ease of Use: The system is so easy to use that we can put our 7 year old to work on the carpets and we don't even have to lift a finger.
- Cleanup: My husband likes that there is a filter to grab larger particles so you can dump the dirty water directly down the sink. So easy.

All in all, we have already recommended this product to our friends and family, and we will continue to do so. The price is great, and it's much better than having to rent clunky cleaners! Great product, Rug Doctor!

I received this product to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

With two dogs and two young children it's impossible to keep the carpets clean for a good amount of time. We moved a couple months ago to a new house and although I love the carpet in the living room and bedrooms to keep our feet warm in the winter, they are always getting dirty with paw prints and drink/food spills. Just last week I found an old banana in my son's room even though there is no food allowed, yuck! I didn't know a banana could leave such a brown stain.

We have been wanting a small portable carpet cleaner for to keep the carpets clean and I couldn't wait for the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to arrive. To my surprise there were no pieces to put together, it was all set up once it was taken out of the box, just fill the clean water tank up with hot water up to the designated line, and add in the cleaning solution. I love the look of the spot cleaner and how small it was I just wish the clean water tank was shaped differently, I found it hard to get the water up to the correct line since the tank doesn't lay flat, then struggled to get the cap off the solution to add while holding the clean tank. I now make sure the solution cap is already off before I add in the clean water.

Very easy to use and easily lifted up the spots in the carpet, the retractable handle & wheels make it easy & convenient to move around from room to room – reminds me of wheeling luggage, for smaller movement there is a smaller carry handle.

Overall, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has been a huge life saver, whether it cleaning up drink spills, pet accidents, or muddy paw prints, it gets the job done and leaves our carpets looking as good as new. It’s also small enough to fit on a shelf in the closet, taking up far less space the vacuum size carpet cleaners.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to facilitate my review, but trust me, my thoughts and experiences are all true. I have 4 kids, with the youngest being a very messy and naughty 2 year old. We constantly have to clean up after him.
Even though we just moved into our house about 14 months ago, the carpets have really taken a beating. I have spent hours cleaning it after he's gotten into anything from markers to colored bath soaps to makeup to pens and more. He can be gone for 3 minutes and create a mess that takes me 45 minutes to attempt to clean. Sadly, there are tons of old stains because of his little adventures and I'd frankly given up hope.
One particularly peaceful Sunday, he decided to smear cream eye shadow all over my daughter's floor. As usual, I scrubbed it with a spray cleaner and a rag for 30 minutes before remembering that I'd received the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. I quickly ran down stairs and started putting it together. It took me a few minutes to read through the instructions and get the clean water tank filled with hot water and the cleaning solution included in the package.
The sprayer mechanism was very easy to use and covered a large area. I used the rotating brushes to really scrub the cleaning solution and water into the stain before using the vacuum part to suck it up. I went over the stained area twice, sucked up the excess water, and was amazed at the results.
It really took away that obnoxious black stain from my light beige carpet AND the vacuum sucked up all of that excess water. (I've used wet vac type products in the past that left my carpet really damp afterward, but the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner really got rid of all the excess water!)
Since this incident, I have used this a few other times and have always been pleased with the results. I am so glad to have it in my utility room, just waiting to clean up after my toddler. I've also used it on my stairs and it has made a huge difference in how nice they look.
The clean and dirty water tanks are easy to care for. The rotating bristles work well for getting out ground-in stains. I'm in love!

We had a leak in our home that cause a very almost bad black stain on the beige carpet in one of the rooms in our home it was so bad that I never thought it would come out. When we opened the box and pulled out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner we were thrilled that it comes pre-assembled and ready to use. We simply added some hot water and carpet cleaner and got right to work. It got the whole stain out!! We were so thrilled and relieved. You can’t even tell there was ever a problem and we didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars replacing all of the carpet due to one area.

Next up we tackled the upholstery in the car and again…it worked fabulously. The car seat were very stained. VERY stained. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner got out most of the stains and grime and the seats now look as good as if they had been professionally cleaned. Oh wait, they have been…The Rug Doctor IS professional…just for at home. It helps that the machine is super simple to use and lightweight for portable use. I do wish it had a longer cord, but an extension cord easily solves that problem. Overall, it is a great machine that is easy to use and does a great job and in a home with 2 kids and 4 dogs I can see it coming in very handy on many occasions to come.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner in our home to tackle the messes and spills from a family of 5, indoor pets and general country living. We are very tough on the carpets and my children spill or track something across them almost daily. Despite owning a full size, upright cleaner, I was still having a hard time keeping up with the wall-to-wall carpets and had to set aside time to do an entire room at once. This portable option is much more practical for my family and the small stains that require immediate attention. Yes, that would be things like Kool-Aid

Straight out of the box it was very easy for me to use for the first time.. Clean water and cleaning solution in one side and the dirty water will be sucked into the other. The main machine turned on with the flip of one switch and the hand held brush turns on with another. Solution is dispensed with an even spray right under where the brush is gripped, so it is easy to clean one-handed.

One of the biggest issues I have are the carpeted stairs in my house. The Rug Doctor fit easily on a step as I cleaned the next one. I liked that the machine easily fit on the step and did not tip as I used the brush and hose. It was also light enough that I could carry it up and down the stairs for tackling those hard to reach spots without hurting my back.

One of my favorite features is the powerful suction. Despite the portable spot cleaner's size, it has great suction for cleaning up sprayed solution and dirt. Even when I used a lot of solution on a tough spot in the living room, the motorized brush head picked it up and left the carpet only slightly damp.

I also used the Rug Doctor on the children’s micro fiber mini chairs in the living room. They have stains from both the children’s snacks, the baby’s sticky fingers and the cats. The chairs are now clean and stain free with minimal time spent going over them.

My carpets are already looking better. The next time the pets or children become sick or spill on the carpet I will be reaching for the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. Having this easier cleaning solution on hand has helped me enjoy the look and feel of our carpets more. Now I won’t have to call a professional cleaning service to get the job done.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for review purposes. All opinions are my own. This was SO FUN and easy to use. This may be TMI, but a few months ago our niece stayed at our house and had been peeing on the carpet every night without us knowing. The room smelled so bad! I tried all kinds of carpet cleaners, and although they lessened the smell, it was still there. The Rug Doctor did a great job with a lot less arm fatigue on my part. I also used it on our kitchen rug, and after that I was so excited that I used it on our car mats. They had stains on them that have been there for a couple of years, so I didn't expect the Rug Doctor to be able to do much for them, but I was surprised with what it was able to get out. They don't look new by any means, but all the obvious spot marks are gone. I liked that I wasn't tirelessly scrubbing at any of these spots: in about 30 minutes time I was able to tackle 3 problem areas in our home! My favorite part was watching all the dirt get sucked up through the hand tool. So cool. Thank you Rug Doctor!

Right out of the box, the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner doesn't need any assembly and, other than adding water and soap, you can get started cleaning right away. I love that Rug Doctor made just about every aspect foolproof, as the markings on the tanks show exactly how much water to add, how much soap, and just when to empty the dirty water when it reaches the full line. Easy peasy!

When it comes to using this little cleaner, the carry handle is just right if you want to move a small amount and the retractable handle (it moves up and down like a rolling suitcase) is perfect for rolling right into the next room or taking this in and out of storage. I love that it can be used on carpet, upholstery, stairs (the slim design sits right on a stair), in cars and more - it's just so portable and great for getting into small areas and tight corners.

As for actual use, the motorized handheld brush is easy to turn on or leave off and its clear top on the nozzle makes it possible to see the water, soap and dirt being sucked in. The strong suction not only really gets the dirt up but it doesn't leave the cleaned area soaked - I've mainly used this in rooms where we have wall-to-wall carpet and it's great being able to get up all sorts of new and old stains and not have to worry that there are then going to be soggy spots for hours afterward.

All in all, this is a wonderful cleaner and just so easy to use! Why pull out bottles and sprays and sit there scrubbing (which usually just ends up rubbing the stain in further) when the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner can be rolled right out, filled, used and emptied (disposing of the dirty water is very easy) with so much less work? It's a must-have for households with kids, pets or simply anyone who doesn't want to deal with dirty, dingy carpet, rugs and upholstery!

We live in a rental home, which means we have the standard, beige carpet that comes in so many rentals. We've lived here 7 years and the carpet was at least 5-10 years old when we moved in. As you can imagine, the carpet has seen better days. Add 3 kids into the mix and there are definitely spots on the carpet that I HATE!

We've rented bigger machines from the grocery store but they are always so hard to move around, hard to fill with water and hard to empty the dirty water at the end. I was very excited to try out Rug Doctor's Portable Spot Cleaner. I wonder if it could handle and clean the spots in our heavily traveled areas.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is very easy to move from room to room to take care of the spots. It's not heavy or bulky like the other machines we've used. It's easy to fill the tank & empty it as well.

It's powerful to use anywhere (my next stop is our minivan!) but small enough to use in small areas, like on carpeted stairs. I love that when a spill happens, I'll be able to just pull this out & clean the area without having to scrub with cleaners that never seem to work well enough or without having to rent a giant cleaner from the store!

I am a mom to 4 kids ages 6 and under along with a dog (and a husband!). We encounter our fair share of spills on the carpet, muddy paws and boots, mysterious stains that no one will cop to making, so I was extremely excited to try out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on our stains.

Out of the box set up was a breeze, as there really isn't any. Fill with water and cleaning solution and you are ready to begin. I love the compact size. We have an upright carpet cleaner (vacuum type of style) and it's so bulky that I can't haul it up from the basement to easily clean up spills. I reserve that for my husband to do and only when the spill is justified in doing so. Now I have a handy portable carpet cleaner that I can use on any spill! Yay for that.

I had several stains to try it out on. I began with a set of stains on my light colored carpet made when my 2 year old dumped wet crayons on the floor. I had some ugly red stains on the carpet and the rug doctor took them right out. I also had various black stains on the carpet left from the dog and the kids running through with their shoes on. The rug doctor aced those as well. After i had tackled all the indoor carpet stains my husband stole the machine and went to town with it on the vehicles and the boat. It was the perfect size to detail the vehicles and boat with and he was thrilled with it. The motorized hand tool is perfect for detailing as well as getting in hard to reach places.

In the past I used spray on carpet cleaner and paper towels to scrub stains. I never felt they got a good cleaning accomplished and with the rug doctor I feel that my carpet actually gets clean AND the stain comes out which didn't usually happen with spray on cleaner.

Clean up is easy and I store the rug doctor in my cleaning closet so it's easy to pull out and clean up spills. I'd be lost without it now! If you have kids, dogs or even just a vehicle or boat then I highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner!

As a mom who has a baby that spits up a lot and a potty training toddler I needed a portable and quick solution for carpet and furniture accidents. I have been using spray solution and towels with poor results only to have to rent a cleaner to do the rugs every few weeks. This was an expensive and labor intensive method. The Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner is perfect for treating the stains as soon as they happen leading to better results. I no longer have to worry about my carpets starting to stink from potty training accidents, I can see the Rug Doctor lifting the stain out of the carpet.
The portability of this carpet cleaner makes it really nice, my 8 year old can wheel it into the room while I handle grabbing the solution and filling the tank. I also love the rotating brush that really scrubs out the set in stains and I appreciate that I can choose how much solution to use depending on the need of the stain. I have used my Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on my stairs, wall to wall carpet for accidents and on my microfiber couch. I would recommend this to anyone who frequently needs to clean any upholstered or carpeted area.

I have 5 children and multiple pets. We recently converted some of the main areas of our home over to hardwoods, but left the bedrooms carpeted for my children’s comfort. I have to admit many days I am left wishing I just converted everything over, because it seems like my kid’s rugs have only become dirtier and my pets purposely wait until they are on a carpeted area to get sick or have an accident. Looking for a convenient and less time consuming way to tackle spills and pet messes I found the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, and it sounded like it was worth a shot.

Lightweight, I can maneuver it from room to room with the carpet friendly wheels and retractable handle. It was basically set up right out of the box and all that was left for me to do was to fill the clean water tank, add some solution, and get down to business. There were some messes from when our cat was ill under my son’s bed that I missed last time we rented a rug cleaner. I had tried scrubbing the areas previously by hand, but at the risk of giving a little too much information, it was hardened and pretty set into the rug at that point. The motorized brush and suction power of the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner broke down the stain almost immediately – I was highly impressed. After working through a few other spots in the kid’s bedrooms, I decided to give it a shot touching up our couch.

Now, the carpet in the bedrooms is old and way too light to withstand my large family and the pets, but the Rug Doctor did a nice job picking up the stains, leaving the room fresher overall, and making it so I was less embarrassed for someone to walk into a room beyond the living room. But my couch on the other hand! It came out like it was brand new! I did a small test spot before going over the couch, when that dried I knew I was good to go. I admit the microfiber material of couch is made up of is pretty easy to clean in general, but cleaning a large sectional by hand; I just don’t always have the time. I LOVED the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner even more when I saw how my couch shined like new again, and it took almost no effort on my part beyond pulling the brush back a forth and pushing the spray trigger. That’s a long way away from my old wash rag and bucket of water method. I also want to mention how it grasp the pet hair. As many times as a vacuum my couches the pet hair seems to have a magical sticking power. Not only did the Rug doctor make quick cleanup of the stains, but it grabbed that pesky pet hair and whisked it away too.

If you’re looking for convenience, portability, and a spot remover that works to keep your carpets and upholstery looking their best in between whole carpet cleanings, this is it. I've tried a spot cleaner in the past and was less than impressed, which is why I was really skeptical of the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner at first. But it really works! The only thing I can think of that I might improve upon is the way the hose gets stored on the unit. If you go the wrong way you’ll never get it to sit right, so you want to go over the top with the hose first. But that’s minimal, I may be something only I had trouble figuring out.

First of all I must say thank you to Rug Doctor for making this wonderful Portable Spot Cleaner easy to use and for having directions that are simple to understand .I was afraid that the machine would come in a lot of pieces. I was amazed by how simple it was to use.

I hate carpet and my entire house except the kitchen is covered in carpet . We bought the house three years ago with the intentions to pull up the carpet but that hasn't happen. We had the carpet only cleaned once since moving into the home. We have been spot cleaning it with a rag and a spray cleaner. We use to own a portable spot cleaner by another leading brand but it was bulky to move it around which hurt my back. It didn't even have enough suction to deep clean our carpet . When I received the Rug Doctor I immediately started using it and was one Happy Mom when I seen the results!

I 've been embarrassed by the huge spots on all over our carpet . I simply get tired of spot cleaning the carpet with a rag before guest come over to our home. If people show up to our home unexpected we leave the lights off so, they don't see the spots. When I used the RugDoctor on our carpet I noticed the suction was strong and the powerful motorized brush actually pulled all the spots up out of the carpet. I took before and after pictures it's amazing to see the difference. I couldn't believe all the filth that came out of the carpet. I was shocked when I saw how dirty the water was in the waste water tank. I can't believe my little boy has been playing on that filthy carpet!

I was so impressed by the Rug Doctor I cleaned the entire house. The retractable handle made it easy for me to maneuver the spot cleaner easily from room to room. The wheels rolled nicely across the carpet . I love the way the motorized brush fit into my hand and it wasn't heavy to hold . I found the trigger for the soap was easy to use. The removable clear water tank was easy to fill and the waste water tank was simple to empty. I cleaned all the spots and stains up fairly quickly except for some coffee stains they took a little bit more scrubbing but they did come up with the Rug Doctor Portable spot cleaner. It's amazing how dirty a carpet can get. I feel relieved now knowing that whenever my son spills something on the carpet or dirt gets dragged indoors I can quickly grab my Rug Doctor portable spot cleaner to get the spots out! The slim design makes it easy to store and fit on stairs.

I will be using the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to clean my carpet in my home from now on! I will not have to worry about guest coming over and leaving the lights off any more!

I used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner for the dozen mystery spots that appear on my wall-to-wall carpet every day. What I liked about it is that the suction is good and it does clean some stains.

What I don't like about it is:

It does not clean all stains; some stains it lightens by varying degrees but does not remove even after repeated passes. All set-in stains were only slightly lightened, not removed.

It's heavy and bulky. I can't move it around myself, even though I have a low-pile carpet, because the little wheels dig in and won't budge; I have to have my husband bring it out for me. (I am tall, and not elderly or disabled in any way.)

It takes too long to set up. Long before we have it ready to work, I could have sprayed cleaner on the stain and wiped it up.

It is eardrum-shatteringly loud to use, especially in a small room, because your head has to be near the motor; I would not recommend using it without earplugs.

The brushes area of the cleaning head is poorly designed. It looks like there are a lot of scrubbing bristles, but most of them are stationary; only one row actually scrubs, so you're maneuvering this big head around with only one row of bristles actually doing anything.

The "pull handle" is very hard to get out, and sticks repeatedly when I try to fully extend it.

The water tanks can be tricky to remove; if you don't pull them at the right angle, they won't budge. My husband is a big man, and he has struggled to remove the tanks. In addition, even with average fingernails for a woman, I found that the indentations around the handles are not deep enough for me to get my fingers in there and grab the handles; I am completely unable to remove the tanks. I'd suggest testing before you buy to be sure that you'll be able to do it.

The water-spraying function is where this product totally fails for me. You have to hold a button down to get the water to come out; there is no way to make it stay down without holding it. I have hands as big as a man's, and I could barely hold the button down and move the cleaning head over the rug at the same time; my finger slips off after a couple of seconds, so I have to keep stopping and re-positioning my hand in order to keep the water flowing. For anything other than a tiny stain, this is a real pain. My husband's hands are stronger, and he can do it the way it's supposed to work, but unless we find a way to strap the button down I won't be able to use the this product myself without more struggle than it's worth.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner does not clean better than any other method, and not as well as simple hand-cleaning. It is so hard to use that I am unable to use it by myself. I do not recommend this product.

I have three kids, a dog, and a husband that are constantly running through my house dragging dirt in, spilling things, or smashing things on my carpet and couch. Previously I would do what I could with a spray cleaner and some elbow grease and wait until I had enough time to use the carpet cleaner to clean the entire area (which is very rare - it's hard to keep everyone out of the room while the carpet dries).
The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was EXACTLY what I needed. It's easy to use, quick, and efficient in getting stains and dirt out without the complications of using a big, bulky carpet cleaner.
So far I've used it on carpet AND upholstery and it's came out nice and clean. I LOVE having this on hand - saves me a ton of time..and headache!

With two kids, two cats, and a dog - I needed this cleaner! It works wonderfully and is so easy to use! The other day my son, Wyatt smashed a strawberry into our beige carpet - a strawberry! And guess what? It came out perfectly without even leaving a mark! I just love the portability of this cleaner too - the handle pops out and you can wheel it to various areas of the house. Plus, the water and cleaner compartment is easy to remove, clean, and fill. No fumbling around with different parts - it's so simple! I would definitely recommend this cleaner to anyone with kids or pets - it works great!

I have a very active dog that loves mud puddles and rolling in whatever looks dirty… OH, and I also have brand new white carpets. It is not an ideal combination! Not only that, we have a eggshell white bed spread and she sleeps on our bed with us… I know, I know. Because we let our dog do just about anything around our house, no place is off-limits. That is why I am constantly looking for products that will keep the place clean, without a lot more hassle. I’ve recently had the opportunity to test the Rug Doctor, and here are my thoughts:

LOVES:

Perfect size for small clean ups and spills. Especially my dog’s dirty prints.

Ideal for stairs! It is light and slim. Sits right on the stair, no need to muscle through stairs by holding the unit the entire time!

Easy to move around the rug and maneuver while cleaning. Great length cord, rolling wheels and handles are easy and convenient!

Brush is fantastic! Just set it on the stain, push the button and it gets working. It is motorized and runs and scrubs as I hold it!

Although I have just used this on a small section in our upstairs carpet, I am excited about the potential to use it on the couch and other upholstery. Better than scrubbing!

LIKES:

Emptying the tank is kind of messy. I got it all over the place. However, this is my second spot cleaner, and the other one is also messy. I am not sure if there IS an easy way to empty the dirty water out of these cleaners.

The wheels make this machine easy to move around, but they can be a nuisance too.

The hose and the cords are stored right in the machine, for easy storage.

CONCERNS:

The tanks are kind of small, making this hard for large projects. It is definitely for “spot” cleaning, not full carpet cleaning.

I love the brush, but I am worried the bristles will not last forever on my long carpet.

I have not looked into how much the cleaning solution is, but in the past I know that they can be kind of hefty. Hopefully I can buy a big jug and save by buying in bulk.

SUMMARY:

Overall I would recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to a renter, landlord, anyone in a small home, office or apartment or that has a minimal amount of carpet. Oh, this would also be good for spot cleaning your car! This little gadget can come in handy for specific problem areas, but is not meant for large projects. It works well, but don’t expect to use it for more than just little projects.

We recently moved into a new home and this new home has a lot of carpet. Three sets of carpeted stair cases and three levels of carpet to keep clean. We really were looking for a portable carpet cleaner that would help us keep all this carpet clean. The Rug Doctor is perfect for our home!

Easy to port around - handles are sturdy and well designed for easy transport, wheels are sturdy and roll easily, extended handle saves your back!
Easy to fill - easy to read measuring lines
Easy to use
Cleaned spots effectively.
Didn't leave overpowering chemical/cleaning smell afterwards
We also have a pre-schooler, a dog and a cat. You can imagine we get quite the number of spills and messes. Especially since the cat likes the puke on our carpet at least twice a week. It's gross. I'm quite impressed with how efficiently the Rug Doctor cleaned up the mess and left no trace behind. And the odor was gone as well!

The water tank is easy to fill. It features easy to read measuring lines for water and cleaner. And I actually prefer how the cleaner goes in last. Competitors have you put in the cleaner first and then you get tons of suds and bubbles that make a mess. This method is much better, less mess.

The pulsating brush is another feature I really like about this model. It does a little extra scrubbing on stains so I don't have to. The bristles of the scrubber also seem to be durable quality. They haven't bent or given way to the shape of my floor as of yet; where competitor models-- the bristles only last a month then are so deformed they aren't worth anything any longer.

Overall; we love this model. It's easy to use and cleans well and stores away nicely.

The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner comes pre-assembled, meaning it is ready to use right out of the box. Once all plastic and tape is removed, hot water and upholstery cleaner will be added to the clean water tank and it is now ready to be used. You’ll enjoy that the reservoir is marked with a clean line for water and a soap line for the upholstery cleaner, no guessing is needed!

We have a new puppy so have numerous urine marks from her that stained and I also have a cat that has an upset belly often, vomiting leaving many marks on my carpets. The first place I wanted to use the spot cleaner was the landing on my stairs as there were black marks that I’m unsure what the stains were.

The machine is simple to use. You’ll turn it on and use the motorized handheld brush which has a flexible hose. The hose has an on switch. Place the brush on an area that needs to be cleaned and press the soap trigger to begin. The spots on my stairs were very old, but removed after a few moves over the stains. To remove excess water just pass the tool where soap and water were sprayed and it removes to the waste water tank.

I love the easy carry handle and that this machine isn’t at all heavy making it easy to carry upstairs or numerous areas around the home. It also has a retractable handle (just like a suitcase on wheels) to roll around. The cord isn’t very long but long enough for the jobs that need to be done. The flexible hose has a storage area.

My thoughts? I’m impressed with this spot cleaner removing stains that are old and new and how user-friendly the machine is. I had a pen ink stain on my couch that this didn’t remove, but the vomit, urine, mud marks and food stains were all removed with ease. I was disgusted at the waste water tank and how dirty the areas were that I spot cleaned in my home (stair landing, white on an area rug in my dining room, urine mark in the living room, juice stain at the top of my stairs and muddy paw prints from the puppy on my white couch.) This made most of the areas look brand new again as the suction was pretty powerful for such a compact machine. The wand is small enough to fit under furniture if need be.

This portable spot cleaner is definitely a must buy especially for pet owners or those with children. You just never know when spills may happen and to have a machine to clean them up instead of the old-fashioned way with a bucket and scrub brush is ideal. I’d highly recommend!

I've tried different cleaners in the past and wasn't all that thrilled, so when the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner was sent my way to try out, I thought I'm really going to give this a test drive. I'm a mom of four children, we have carpet in a good majority of our house and huge area rugs in other areas, with four couches, etc. you can imagine the messes.

My first challenge was to see if the Rug Doctor could clean up a few easy stains on the low profile carpet and a cushion. These weren't set in stains and with hardly any work at all they were completely taken care of.

My next challenge was to try it on our cream sectional.. I was absolutely blown away at how well it cleaned. The motorized brush works extremely well and it took out stains like never before. I then tried it on a very old couch that has had set in stains for years.. I've tried a lot of things to get it out but they just left worse water marks. Though the Rug Doctor didn't get them completely, I couldn't believe how well it worked. My husband was shocked as well.

Besides how well it worked at removing stains. I love how light weight and compact the entire unit is. The cord wraps wonderfully around the back, there's a handle that releases so you can pull it on the wheels while in different areas or pick it up by the carry handle. The motorized brush connects on the front in-between the two talk tanks. Easy to fill and empty. Definitely to be mentioned is the fact that the suction is powerful, though I have only used it a few times it sucks up the water is uses to clean great, so you're not leaving behind soaking wet cleaned areas.

I would definitely recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to family and friends as a great way to easily clean up stains around your home and car whether it be from the family or the family pet. A great compact spot cleaner that can easily be hid away in a small pantry.

I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Complete Package in exchange for my honest opinion.

Between the dog and the kiddos who seem to collect more children and bring them home, keeping my carpet clean is a challenge. My daughter has girlfriends over where they play beauty parlor and makeup, hairspray and glitter end up embedded in the carpet. My son tracks the outdoors through the house, creating his own indoor nature trails, add his sidekick, our dog, and it's mess and mayhem. The dog, herself, though less than ten pounds, drags stolen scraps of bbq, peanut butter and anything else she can carry under the couch.

I've scrubbed carpet well into the night trying to get it back to a reset where I wouldn't be horrified to bring my own friends to my home. Life's too short for this! So? When the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Complete Package arrived, I had my doubts. Pulling it out of the box I found it adorable and far too small to even imagine it would work.

I just tackled a 3' section in the main walkway of my home and I'm eating crow. The reservoirs hold a great amount of water, eliminating the need to refill, empty and repeat. I still had water left after cleaning my 3'x3' section of carpet.

In addition to the reservoirs, the vibrating bristles, tackle stains and ground in dirt, making it less work on me.

The spray trigger responds well and sprays nice rows.

Even more impressive is the suction. I could not believe the dirt the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner pulled out of my carpets.

I love the compact size. It's small enough to store easily and pull out for smaller spills and messes. I use mine often when the dog tinkles or one of the kiddos spills or tracks something across the carpet.

Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Complete Package is one of the best carpet cleaners I've used. It packs power that digs deep for the dirt with little effort on the user's part!

This has been FANTASTIC! When I got this, I wasn't sure how well it was going to work, but I was pleasantly surprised! We have four kids, so even when we try to keep the carpet clean, it still becomes a mess. We have spills that occur daily. Plus, with four kids we have lots of visitors coming over and wearing their shoes in the house. This makes for a messy entryway.
I started with a small section of carpeting to test it out, before moving on. I followed the (easy) directions and let it go for about 3-4 minutes. It was clean. I was a excited at how well it turned out!
I have since moved it from our living room to our children's bedrooms and have seen the same results! It is working really well and I have told all of my friends about it.

As a mother of 5 boys I typically clean all of our carpets on a yearly basis. However, there are those times when a mysterious spot just appears. None of the kids will cop to it, but there's definitely a carpet spot. I was excited to use this machine on what looked like a muddy boot print on the hallway carpet.
When the machine arrived, it was super easy to set up. The instructions are simple and the entire set up took just a few minutes.
The small size of the machine makes it easy to transport and store! After setting up the machine I got to work on stain. It took a couple of passes with the handy rotating brush but the entire spot was lifted and the carpet looked like new! The only thing I'd change about this machine is that it's sort of loud.
This is the perfect machine for those times when you don't want / need or can afford an entire carpet cleaning. It's perfect for spills, stains and just freshening up the high traffic areas all homes seem to have.
As an added bonus I loved the spot cleaning solution that came with the machine - it works very well and smells good too.
I highly recommend the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner to everyone - its worth every penny and more!

“I received a Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.”

I have a household of four fur babies, a teen, and a very active six year old. As you can imagine my rugs get a lot of action! Dirty paw prints, accidental spills, and puppy mistakes are almost a daily occurrence in my home. My house is made up of mostly area rugs on hardwood floors on the first level, a carpeted stairs, and wall to wall carpet on the second floor in the bedrooms. The rugs get tons of high traffic use with the dogs constantly going in and out and the occasional puppy blunder that needs to be immediately spot cleaned. Using a full size steam cleaner on a regular basis for small jobs and on the stairs is impractical, so the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is the perfect solution for keeping my rugs clean and fresh smelling for those hard to clean areas and spot messes.

The Rug Doctor has been around for 40 years and I have always found their full size professional-grade carpet cleaners to work magic on my rugs. Nevertheless, to constantly have to rent a machine to spot clean my rugs on a regular basis would just be unfeasible and tiresome. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is handy to have for those small area jobs and works fantastic on lifting the dirt. BUT, it should not be confused with a steam cleaner, because it does not actually heat the water. You must use very hot tap water for best results and only use the Rug Doctor cleaning solutions. In fact, using any other cleaner will void the warranty and could damage your machine.

In my opinion, the little machine is packed with some great features for the price including an “Easy Carry” and retractable handle, carpet friendly wheels for extra maneuverability, no tangle cord wrap, flexible hose with compact storage, motorized handheld brush with on/off switch, and easy to fill and clean tanks. It also has a very powerful suction for its size and gets down to deep clean those stains. However, one of the most attractive features for me (besides that it actually works) is that it has a slim design to fit on the stairs, which is a problem area in my home that gets plenty of foot and paw traffic. I had no problem using the machine on the stairs and it was easy to lift from one place to another. Plus, its small slim design is wonderful for trouble-free storage as well.

The first time I used the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner I spilled the filthy water while removing the waste water tank. Now knowing the top of the dirty water intake hole does not auto seal off during removal, I will be more careful to lift the tank straight up for emptying the grungy water. This is probably the only characteristic of the spot cleaner I would like to see redesigned, since it could be problematic without proper handling or if the tank becomes too full.

Overall, Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is a great innovative machine for those regular small cleaning jobs. It is perfect for busy moms and individuals who have pets, small children, or want something easy to use for quick cleanup messes. I found it to effectively work in deep cleaning my rugs and a cinch to use. The machine is also fantastic for using to freshen up upholstery and car rugs! I’m very happy with its performance!

*My Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner came with an 8 oz. trial size cleaning solution, but did not contain the extras such the spot finder black light, fur remover brush, a 1 year extended warranty, or Rug Doctor Coupons. The spot finder black light looks like an awesome accessory to have to find hidden problem sources! Also, the machine came fully assembled!

I recently moved into a new house and the carpet had numerous stains so I was anxious to try out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner. The previous residents had cats, so I knew the Rug Doctor would be put to good use. Within minutes of its arrival, it was out of the box and ready to go. No assembly was a nice plus.

I immediately started working on the stains (we have Berber carpet). I have no idea how old these stains were, but the spot cleaner removed them all. Another plus is the fragrance of the cleaner, which is really pleasant. It doesn’t smell like cleaner at all.

After getting out the visible stains, I decided to try it out on a couple high-traffic areas. There weren’t obvious stains but were somewhat worn down. The carpet definitely appeared brighter.

I also used the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner on the car rugs and upholstery, again not on specific stains but just to freshen it up and bring some life back to it. It did exactly that. It looks better and smells better. I’ll be using this regularly on the car.

The Spot Cleaner is very convenient to use. The handle and wheels allow me to move it around easily. The tank is easy to fill and clean, which will help avoid that odor that tends to build up over time with spot cleaners. It’s also a good size. Not too small to get tough jobs done but not so big that it’s overwhelming. I also like the hand tool, it’s a good size and easy to maneuver. The hose is perfect as well, it wraps up neatly and out of the way.

I have no complaints about the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner and would definitely recommend it. I prefer it over the few spot cleaners I've tried in the past.

I tried the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner on some old spots of set-in globs of unidentifiable something from our shoes around the house. We had a couple of black spots of something and one red spot in the bedroom beside our shoes as well as a grey and somewhat sticky spot of something in the living room. These spots had been on the carpet for several weeks now and I wasn’t sure the Rug Doctor could handle them. However, I gave it a go anyways (we are renting an apartment and I didn’t want to leave those spots behind when we move).
After following the super easy steps to get the Portable Spot Cleaner going, I first attempted the black and red splotches in the bedroom. After one go at them, I could see a difference. I did go over the spots a few times, just for good measure. Now, you can’t even tell there was anything there. In fact, I had my boyfriend look at the area when he came home from work and he couldn’t even tell where to look as he couldn’t remember the exact spot where the dots where! Additionally, the spot in the living room came out cleanly as well.
I’m very happy with the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner as it gets out stains that a normal vacuum cleaner can’t do anything with. Plus, it’s small and easy to move about the apartment with. Now, I don’t worry about accidents and spills as much because I know this thing can handle them.

we just moved into our new home in march, a few weeks after having baby3.0. is was a busy whirlwind event, and i was tending to a newborn, a toddler and a child as i scrubbed the house from top to bottom and babe painted in anticipation of us moving in. the one part of the house i was unable to clean to my liking was the carpet. the entire house (except for basement, bathrooms, and kitchen) is covered with a multicolored cream/brown rug. i dont like it at all, and eventually hope to replace it with hardwood and area rugs. for now, however, it is what it is.

it looked a little worn when we moved in, and then the boys happened. right near the kitchen, the upstairs hallway, and a spot in the living room taunted me. my mom gave me the old carpet cleaner from her basement when she moved, but not only was it antique it was broken. i ended up with carpet cleaning solution everywhere with little suction. i tried spot cleaning and the spots remained. it was bad enough that the carpet coloring already makes it look dirty when its clean, but the spots mocked me. enter the rug doctor portable spot cleaner.

it arrived the day i was set to leave for a 2 day conference, then i let it stay in the box a few more days out of fear for how hard it was going to be to put together. imagine my surprise when i opened the box to use it i discovered there was no set up involved. the most i had to do was pull the clean water container out and fill to the water line, then pour the soap in the water to the soap line. here is my only complaint: the water container doesnt have a flat bottom. i couldnt just sit it on the counter to make sure it was to the line. once i finished getting everything measure, back in the rug doctor portable post cleaner it went and i was ready to go.

using the machine was just as easy as the set up. turn the machine on, and i was ready to go. the brush handle has an on/off button to turn the rotating brush on or off. i used the brush for the set in stains, but when it was a newer spill i leave the brush off. the shampoo spray button and suction work either way. for the big living room stain, i tuned on the handle and pressed the "soap" trigger on the underside of the brush. i moved the brush forward as the rug doctor sprayed shampoo and then pressed the nozzle into the rug and moved the brush back toward me to suck up the dirty water and stain. the stain was pretty set in, so i ha to go over it a few times in the sitting, but it worked like a charm! i even had enough cleaning solution left in the rug doctor to go do the doorway between the dining room and kitchen.

the rug doctor portable spot cleaner is remarkably light, and i can easily carry it with just the handle. it is nowhere near as heavy and bulky as the rug cleaner i was given from my mom! there is a retractable handle as well, and wheels on the bottom of the machine making it even easier to move around. it reminds me of a rolling suitcase or back pack when it is like this! i would absolutely recommend this for anyone with carpets, or even area rugs in their house. i know that with three boys and a husband my rug doctor will be doing a lot of work! and now for the grand reveal... the spot is gone!

Meet my new best friend: The Rug Doctor, or DR as I have come to affectionately call her. Yes, her! A useful tool in keeping my home beautiful and clean is most definitely a her!

I was so excited to try out The Rug Doctor! Our carpet is just two years old BUT we had a new baby six months ago. All our best efforts at keeping it clean in spite of our other two kids went out the window. You just can't control the spit up, the poop and the food messes that come with baby! I was really sad about it and wishing we had waited longer to get new carpet. But never fear, the Dr. is in!

The second this arrived my husband tore into it and wanted it to clean out his car but I claimed it for myself! House carpet comes before car carpet although it will be nice to use for that as well! It's compact size will fit nicely into our vehicles but first things first!

It just so happened that I had spilled my coffee on the carpet (more accurately, the baby had knocked over my cup) and I could still smell it under my desk in the office. There was also another unidentified crunchy brown spot on the carpet in my living room that I wanted to take care of right away!

I don't love getting new things like this simply because of the setup. But surprisingly there was very little with this. It was basically good to go aside from adding the cleaning solution. Right out of the box there's nothing to put together or install. I just removed the Clean Water section to fill to the line with warm water and then to the next line with the included soap.

The one thing I didn't love and probably the ONLY thing about this Rug Doctor I don't love is the shape of this tank. I realize it has to be that way to fit but it would be nice if it had a flat bottom for when you're putting the water in and trying to check if it's level with the line. You can't just put it on a counter to check. You have to hold it because of the shape.

I really liked the smell of the cleaning solution and was pleasantly surprised by it. I expected it to smell like the commercial carpet cleaners I'm used to but it doesn't at all. It has a smell all it's own that's more conducive to a home environment so your house doesn't smell like an office building.

Once I put the tank back in the Doctor, it couldn't be easier to use. You just turn it on from the top and then turn on the brush as well. I also really liked that it says "On" and "Off" and doesn't JUST show the line and the circle. Am I the only one that can never remember which is which?

I started with the spot on my living room floor. Yuck.

It took me a couple minutes to get the rhythm down and do everything in the right way. There's a little trigger button on the underside of the handle you're holding that releases the liquid. You put the brush in FRONT of the spot where it gets sprayed first and then pull the brush BACK towards you to go over the liquid you just sprayed. It took me a couple minutes to coordinate the spraying so I was getting it on the spot and then releasing it at the right time. I had to go over the spot several times to get it up but I did! (This is the same carpet. The light just changed from when I started).

Next I moved to my office to clean up the coffee I spilled so this was a much larger spot. I couldn't see anything so I went over a nice wide area to make sure I got it all. It's easier when you are doing a big section instead of just a spot because you don't have to pay as close attention to where you are spraying.

I realized when I was done I still had most of my water in the tank. Since I had to use hot water and already put in the soap I didn't want it to go to waste. I decided to go back to the living room and do the section in front of the couch. I know this is where food gets dropped and drinks get spilled and it's a pretty high traffic area. I was able to do a section from one end of the room to the other, from the couch to the coffee table on the one tank after spot cleaning the other two areas.

I love the handle feature! It's like a fun little traveling suitcase! It makes it easy to lean back on the wheels and roll from room to room. You just grab the handle, squeeze and pull up to get it out and then push back down to put back in.

The one that says Carry Handle is just a small handle if you want to pick up and move from one spot to the other where you're not going far enough to make it worth releasing the other handle.

When I was finished, I went to empty out the tank which pulls out easily, and was thoroughly disgusted by the condition of the water. Yuck! THAT was in my carpet! I know this is just a spot cleaner but it made me want to clean my entire house with it! It definitely does the job because it pulled all kinds of things out of my carpet that looked clean!

The Rug Doctor really has thought of everything! From it's design, ease of use and how well it works, the Rug Doctor is incredible and I'm so happy to be able to immediately clean up after my family now instead of just imagining it in my carpet! Now that the baby is crawling, I want to make sure my carpet is as clean as it can be. I'll be especially grateful to have the Doctor in the coming years of potty training ahead of me. EEEK!!

Okay, so I hope that I can effectively convey my excitement and love for this little carpet (life) saver! The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner has literally saved the carpet in my Durango! It’s a light grey and with three kids plus a few on long road trips something always ends up happening. A spilled slushie, ground in sweet and sour sauce. Something!

Because the spot cleaner is smaller in size and pretty light weight – plus it has wheels so I can roll it right out to the driveway, it’s much easier to get out to the truck to clean the carpet. And clean it does! I’ve had this thing for over a year now and I not so fondly recall the first spill – a pretty red slushie all over my light gray carpet less than a month after becoming the proud new owner! I dabbed, and spot cleaned with a traditional spray cleaner and did the best I could to clean it up but the stain stuck around. Until now! This thing works miracles my friends – miracles!

I’ve also used the included UV light to find some spots where my cat urinated due to an infection and cleaned them right up. Once the spots were dry I tested again with the UV light and was really, really pleased with the results! I would definitely recommend giving this a try!

I am a mom to a 3 year old little boy who is full of energy, and two dogs who have reached senior citizen status. In 3 years I have learned that absolutely no sippy cup is leak proof. I’ve also learned that an old dog with an incontinence problem can be a real mess. Both of these factors have resulted in my cream colored wall-to-wall carpet being covered in spots and stains. Normally, I would pull out my big clunker of a carpet steam cleaner at least once a month to try to pull the spots up. Taking the full size steam cleaner out just to clean a few problem areas has been such a hassle, especially since I’m expecting a second baby this fall. I ended up trying out the Rug Doctor Portable Spot cleaner, and it has been a real life (and back) saver! The vacuum suction on this machine is amazing, and the water tank doesn’t run out of water in what feels like two seconds, like many other cleaners. Its portability and ease of use has even inspired me to detail my car upholstery, the cushions covering our dining room chairs and the upholstery covering the rocking chair in the baby’s room. I love the retractable handle and 5’ hose, because I’m definitely not able to get down on my hands and knees to scrub anything right now! I love this spot cleaner and anticipate using it for many years to come. I've even recommended one to my mother and aunt, who both have 3 dogs each. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner works great for your unexpected Pet messes. Just today, my husband was working out in the yard and unknowingly stepped in some dog poo. Then of course, he tracked it into the house, on the carpet and up the stairs. The Spot Cleaner worked great on this mess. It was great to use on the stairs since it is so portable and it easily sat on the stairs while I cleaned up the mess.

The Spot Cleaner works great on set in stains as well. My dog got sick in the middle of the night several months ago and it stained the carpet. The stain was no trouble for the Spot Cleaner, came right out!

The Spot Cleaner is easily toted around the house for any job. I do wish it had a bit of a longer cord on it, but that is more of a design flaw on my house than the Spot Cleaner. The motorized brush is a great feature so no scrubbing to get the mess out of the carpet – it does the work for you.

We will be getting a lot of use out of this Spot Cleaner between our pets and children. If you have either in your household, this Spot Cleaner is a must!

This extractor is a tool I will use for years to come in my detail business. Never bought or even used bissell spot cleaners, I'd rather use my steamer. But when I found out about this product I reaserched it and had to buy it for myself. I was pleasantly surprised with the suction as well as ease of use. Now I use this in my detail business daily and would highly recommend. Great price for a great product, Rug Doctor should win best in class for this one!

I received a rug doctor portable spot cleaner sample to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. For me the spot cleaner came in handy for our area rug under the dining room table. This area in our house harbored all sorts of stains - crayon, coffee, dirt, marker, and food stains. One of the best aspects of the machine is the long length of the motorized hand tool. During the entire cleaning, I barely had to move the machine around the area that I cleaned - it was very user friendly. Another cool aspect of the spot cleaner is the line marks on the fill container, no need for a measuring cup as rug doctor makes it easy to figure out, just fill clean water to the fill line, then add solution to the solution line. Compared to the Bissell little green, the advantage of the rug doctor is two fold - motorized brush (first of its kind on a hand tool), and double the suction power (dries in half the time). All stains came up after 2 or three swipes of the hand tool - just as a disclaimer, our rug had never been cleaned in two years, so I was impressed. I believe the next areas I will attack with the spot cleaner are the minivan and the carpet stairs on our third floor - both areas are suited for spot cleaner vice a full size carpet cleaner machine. I am attracted to the two year warranty, and ease of use ( took 2 minutes to figure out how to use) - I would definitely recommend this device to someone that has area rugs, carpeted stairs or a car/minivan.

We've always rented the large Rug Doctors to deep clean our carpets for special events, and this spot cleaner held up to my Rug Doctor standards and more! It was amazing to use for kids spills on the carpets, to clean both of our microfiber couches, and to take out to the van and clean the carpets/upholstery. The extendable handle and wheels made it super easy to move around the house, and the long hose made it ideal for the van. I was impressed with the amount of suction on the attachment, and the motorized brush really helped clean kid food messes off the couch (even the old, stuck on stuff on the arms). I highly reccomend the Portable Spot Cleaner to keep around the house and for the cars... it's awesome! Plus, cleanup is super simple with the wide mouth dirty water tank (so much better than cleanup on some other spot cleaners). The only thing I didn't love was that the solution spray area constantly dripped, so I kept having to suck up the extra drips everywhere, but it was still worth the great cleaning!

We are about to move across the country, and we are going to be renting our house out instead of selling it. Our property managers said that the stains in our carpets would never come out, and we would have to replace them at a cost of $2500. So when I was asked to review the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner, I didn't have a lot of hope.

In all honesty, I was amazed. Our carpets were definitely in bad shape. They are white carpets, and I have two young children under 3 who have spilled food and drink and tracked mud and other debris throughout. There are stains from juice, which are set in, and there are tons of really horrible black stains from I don't even know what. I have been ashamed when we had guests over, and we had to buy a large area rug to cover up the carpets when they got to be too bad.

I started with a small square of carpet about 2 feet by 2 feet, using masking tape to mark it off. Then I followed the directions (which are incredibly simple!) and began using the cleaner. It took me less than five minutes, and the results were enough to make me literally squeal! I have included a before and after photo so you can see the results. In one afternoon, I actually ended up doing every inch of carpet in our living room and hallway, as well as our stairs. The results were astounding.

Our carpets look 100% better. I would NOT say they look brand new... they are at least 7 years old, and you just aren't going to make them look pristine. But all of the worst stains have been completely removed. Unfortunately, at this point, we still have some light pink staining around from juice spills that have already set. They used to be darker red, so it's a huge improvement, but it did not completely remove them.

It also did take some elbow grease to get up some of the stains. We had to use a metal scraper to pull up some of the gunk, and we scrubbed a little with the oscillating brush. But all in all, I was very impressed with the product and how it worked, and I would have NO hesitation in recommending it to anyone. I think the results speak for themselves. Especially when you see how dirty the water gets in the waste bucket!

I just got back from vacation and the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner arrived while I was gone and I am SO glad it did!!! I have cats and that means we came home to yes cat puke. Those of you with cats know those spots are not easy to get out. Normally I can go clean it up and you can still slightly see the spot. This time I used the Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner and I was absolutely thrilled!!! The stains left in my carpet were gone super fast without a trace of cat puke. If you have ever rented a Rug Doctor from the stores you know these are THE machines to get the job done and this little Rug Doctor Portable is just as good!

It is so easy to fill up with the cleaning solution and the clean water tank and there is a separate tank for the dirty water. It's also very simple to empty and dry out. It's also great because it's on wheels like luggage so there is no need to carry this thing around, simply wheel it from place to place. I am most excited about the brushes that move. Most portable spot cleaners on the market today do not have moving brushes, simply just a brush you yourself can move back and forth to scrub. This thing will get right in there and scrub that stain out. I have kids and cats and am happy to say the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner is now my new best friend.

I have two households to care for, both with disabled family. They all have fur babies..dogs and cats. Safety and cleanliness are my two main concerns. We LOVE this Rug Doctor shampooer because It ACTUALLY works. The center brushes agitate, gently scrubbing. Yet it's mechanisms are strong, powerful when pressure is applied. The vacuum on this machine is INCREDIBLE. It vacuums up the water it deposits. The water cistern doesn't run out of water every 5 minutes. One tank shampoos a lot of furniture. The machine has wheels on it and a handle that pulls up. It's like luggage on rollers. We can push and pull it with ease. It's light weight enough to lift and place on furniture if needed. Now I can keep furniture in both households clean on a regular basis ......Hey Bissell....you don't have a corner on this market anymore...bye bye and good riddance.
